Help With Pricing a 1990 ZR1
Guys,
I need your help because for the life of me I can't figure out ZR1 pricing because it is all over the map. Right now I am in the market and looking at (2) 1990 models that both have under 15K miles. One is sitting at a Chevrolet dealer and the asking price is 22K and the other is privately owned with a firm asking price of 24K. Both cars are dark red with black interiors and come with both tops. What do you think these cars are really worth because asking prices seem to range from 20-40K, which does not make any sense for a car of this age where the market should have narrowed the true value.
Merry Christmas

It depends on the car, The higher priced ones are most likely NCRS correct. Without actually going over the cars in question to see what needs they may have the prices you stated would be about right given the market right now.

Now the DRM (dark red metallic) color is pretty rare by itself and if you like the color, priced right!
Be prepared for some maintenance (injectors / coil packs and other misc items) that need to be done every 20 years and typically are never done until there is a problem. Do some preventive maintenance once and be done with it. Sooo many ZR-1's are running on original injectors and NOT running up to par, which is WHY the cars are selling so cheap!!!
Get the color you want and get it at a wholesale price while you can!
good luck!

Merry Christmas[ you cant really use age as a factor on one of these you just gotta find the car you want at the price you can afford to pay a lot of them to pick from right now Jay

At that price range you can buy the exact car you want. The car at $24k is at the highest price range for the miles. If the guy won't budge he might have it for awhile but I'm in the minority, I want the cleanest car possible so if that car is that nice I'd pay the full price for the car. What's the history,as stated if it has original injectors they will need to be replaced.

I appreciate the feedback. It has been a while since I drove a ZR1, so I found one locally and took it for a test drive. I currently have a 2004 ZO6 and 2010 GS and wanted a ZR1 because I have always liked the body lines of the C4. However, after the test drive I was disappointed in the overall performance and I guess I had forgotten how bad GM build quality was in the 90's. As a result, I have abandoned the idea of getting a ZR1 and will just stay content with the cars I already have.

To me owning a ZR-1 is more about its history and that they are one of a kind.

The "unique factor" and history weighs heavily for me as well. And, after passing through that "500+ hp cloud", and considering about half of Corvette owners can't/won't drive their cars anywhere close to their potential, the (mine and those of ilk) elbows its way to sit the bar with the big boys - pretty darn well!!
And, I think I'd like to have a C6 Z06 for many of the same reasons...
edit: Make that C6 a stable mate - NOT a replacement...NO WAY!
