New ZR-1 Auction Values from SCM
I just received this year's (2016 edition) Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide and was surprised at the auction prices for our ZR-1s. They are quite a bit higher than recent comparable values. They are using a format that looks at median and high auction values for the last two years from their extensive database of auction results, as well as % change from last year. It's not clear that the values include the buyer's premium but I know that in the monthly magazine they always include them in the values, so I assume so. Values listed are as follows:
Year Median High Change
1990 $27,000 $48,600 6%
1991 $22,700 $33,000 -11%
1992 $26,500 $31,320 4%
1993 $29,200 $33,000 4%
1994 $28,500 $38,800 >20%
1995 $48,600 $64,800 >20%
In general, nice to see increases for most ZR-1s.--Bob

I'd sell all of mine for those prices. I've followed '95s for a while...I guess I'm looking at the wrong places. I haven't seen them that high in 10+ years.

I never got into my zr1 to make a profit. I got into it to drive and enjoy the car. I dont care if I make money on it as long as I enjoy to drive it and gives me pleasure. the europeans have spent many billions of dollars and many years convincing people that when its made in europe it is a better product. Most people buy into it and dont mind spending double or triple for a supposed quality european car.
American cars, corvette in general are made for the masses. they know that not many Americans will spend 2, 3 or 4 times the amount of a regular Corvette to buy a super special world caliber corvette so they offer what they can at a price point.
It is my opinion that euopeans make more expensive cars thus they have improved fit and finish and things someone would expect in a more expensive car.
Maybe one day our zr1's will be worth more but then again no one knows when that will be so life is short and enjoy your ride and chalk up your zr1 purchase as self indulgence but not an investment.

I agree Ted--I guess I have not been asking enough for mine! I personally have reservations about the new SCM methodology. The median is simply the middle number in a string of numbers, not the average. We are not told the number of data points in their calculations. If there are five cars selling for $15k, $16k, $30k, $35k and $36k, the median is $30k. And it is a purely mathematical calculation, not truly representative of the market and not taking into account differences in cars. I liked their old approach where they made judgments on the cars and usually targeted a good condition #2 car for the representative price, giving a "buy-sell" range. Last year their numbers for 95s were a low of $32k and a high of $43k. I know of three good 95s currently for sale, one at about $20k, one at about $30k and one in the high $30s. All great but very different cars with different miles so value, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. For the record, my beautiful 32k mile 510 HP '95 is still for sale way below the new "median" value with an asking price of $39,950/OBO. Apparently quite a bargain! --Bob

They look more like early 2000 prices.

I don't where these people get this info but as an owner we all know these prices aren't even close. A 90 near the top of the price range? Doesn't matter to me,I ain't sellin.

Yeah there's a 1990 on this site with 1650 miles for $27,000 that's the lowest price on that chart...chart doesn't mean squat.

I agree--don't know where it was. The info is all from auctions so I would have to check all. I am just a subscriber to SCM, not a member entitled to their Platinum database of all auction results. Wherever it happened, it was probably an extremely low mile perfect stock car, maybe NCRS etc. Maybe #445, 446 or 447; I think recall seeing one of those advertised in the $90s a year or two ago; could have gone in the $60s. They were originally bought by one person. I have thought of putting mine in a Mecum auction but I would really rather have it go to someone in the ZR1 Net Registry or on this forum. Someone knowledgeable about the ZR-1s who wants to take care of it. It is a special car. --Bob
