ZR1 Performance Question

ZR1 Performance Question
Got some great info last week on a low mileage 1990 I was considering purchasing. Decided to pass on it due to issues but after a few days curiosity got the best of me. Drove 1 hour 1/2 to look/test drive it. Nice car but has issues, my question is the performance. I started the test drive in the "regular" mode. It drove ok, then I turned the key to "full power" and had a nice interstate on ramp to see what it had. I was pretty disappointed, Im pretty sure my stock 94 LT 1 5sp ran better. Everything I have heard about the ZR1 is that when one opens it up in the "full power" mode they pull like a freight train and want to spin the rear tires even with the traction control on. New injectors, all 18, replaced in the last year. Any ideas what could be going on with this car??

There are 16 injectors in a ZR-1.
0-60 in 4.2 seconds, 100 in 10 seconds and a quarter in 12.9, 0-150 in less than 30 seconds.
Yes, it pulls like a Freight Train.
You could have a plethora of issues: http://www.zr1netregistry.com/Inform...Diagnosis.aspx

As mentioned, could be a combination of different items. I have no trouble with my '94, (very fortunate) 1st gear @WOT = 7200 rpm's.
Doing the 70 mph speed limit on the Interstate in 5th gear and just step on it part throttle, you will be surprised how quickly you climb, imagine if I downshifted......
I guess I got lucky, spoke to the PO before the one that I purchased the Z from and he did a tune-up with a fuel filter change, and that was only 6000 miles ago all driven by me. My PO bought it used it rarely and then sold it to me.
Don't be discouraged, there are a number of them for sale, you need to experience driving or riding in one that doesn't have any issues, and believe me you won't be disappointed at all.....Good luck!!!

Mine has lots of minor issues but missing power isn't one of them.
Now a healthy LT1 is still a quick car. The LT5 is deceptively quiet and smooth but once above 4000 rpm it should pull quite hard.

Make sure the Tach us reading correctly. When i test drive mine, it felt slow; my Tach was 2k plus off!!! Pull it to the shift light, even if the needle is in the speedometer box! You won't hurt this engine.

the fact I nearly rear ended one on a cruise in BG determined that's not true.

What everyone said. The car should pull hard over 4000 rpm, and keep pulling to about 6500 - 7000. Normally on an untuned car you can feel it when the secondaries open. After mine was tuned its smoother so its harder to tell but you still can. If the price is right it may be, and probably is, a pretty easy fix. Is this a high mileage car or a low milage car? Has the car been sitting for a while?

I learned to appreciate the ZR-1 Redline ( and fear our brakes )!
Gotta love these cars!

The car has 30500 on it but it has sat for quite some time I a collection. Don't know how or when it was started or driven. Im starting to think its a vacuum issue from what I have learned on this forum. Thank you all.
