Default WTB ZR1 1990, 70K miles, what the heck should I be inspecting?

I an NOT familiar w/ the King of the Hill ( other than media write-ups)
I'm looking at a clean 1990 ZR1 with about 70,000 miles
I'm a little apprehensive on a 26 year old car with tons of unique electronics... electrically controlled suspension and other state-of-the-art goodies for the time.
car started but has a low RPM and up stumble/hesitation ... fuel pump possibly?
what would YOU inspect or should I just take it to a dealer?
I'm in San Diego... if you have suggestions for dealer or third-party inspector.
Thanks in advance.

Check out this site lots of great reading for ya. and good luck.

http://www.zr1netregistry.com/Market...yersGuide.aspx

You may also want to read the sticky at the top of this page and in the net forum. I'm sure others will post up and you may even find an owner who would be willing to look it over with you, it a very tight group.

I agree with this info but would like to add do not take to a chevy dealer without input from someone local that knows who can fix one or no what to look for there are a lot of ZR-1 people in your area Jay

I approach this on three levels

1 – standard “used car” issues
eg, clutch, tires, brakes, paint
2 – C4 Corvette issues
eg, weatherstripping, headlight door motors, clutch safety switch
3 – ZR-1 issues
eg, secondary vacuum pump, windshield delamination

You’re right, this is a 26 year old car, even if it is a ZR-1 Corvette, so pay attention to areas 1 and 2.

For 3, you’ll discover a few common issues. For example, the dreaded “no start” and the common “bad injectors.”

The “stumble” could be bad fuel pump(s) [there are two], or bad injector(s) or ?? -- I would guess bad injectors

As far as inspection, ask if there’s a ZR-1 person nearby who could go with you to see it; otherwise ask for a good shop (I agree I wouldn’t just take it to the Chevy dealer unless they have a tech who understands C4 ZR-1s)

If something doesn’t feel right or look right, it isn’t. If you discover other issues, write them down and post them here (although it is tough to diagnosis at a distance :-)

Good luck

If it's a clean car I'd go $17 but other than the injectors the rest of the problem areas are standard C4 items. And the injectors are the same as in a base L98 car, just twice as many.
