Default Custom wheel decisions

I'm about to order custom wheels for my black 91 ZR-1. It's going to be a bit pricey but with our unique offsets it's probably a necessary evil. So the decision points are 18/18 or 18/19 front and rear. Both will be correct 9.5 and 11 width with oem spec offsets.

Second decision point is color for blk/blk car. Choices are dark bronze, matte black, or gunmetal.

ETA would be spring time.

Not too many tire choices for a rear 18 inch wheel.

better availability of 18 big tires for the rear in affordable stuff I like and the CCW rims are a great deal

I got a set of ccw classics and michelins for 2400 and bolted them on.

Admittedly this was a steal as the rims are 750 each and tires are over 400 a pop but if you are patient, the deals are out there!

I like the performance of the 18 inch tires better than the 19s too.

Thanks RTF, but your C6/C7 wheels won't fit my '91 ZR-1....

I ordered these in the correct sizes and offsets today. Now comes the wait.... and hunt for tires. I'm sure I will have them mounted up later on this spring sometime. I will take photos then. Car should be buffed by then too.

I agree with you Dave. They would look great on a certain blue car too. So I will gladly take those Shelby's off your hands.

I've got a little bias, but the C6 GS wheels are beautiful... NOT IN CHROME!!! The comp gray or black wheels look amazing on our cars!

Wheels arrive this week. Sadly I'm out of town for work. I'm looking forward to ordering tires mounting these up, fixing my broken antenna, changing my door panels and doing some maintenance next month.

sadly because if my work travel, I think I'm just taking it to a shop for the plenum pull. I don't have as much time to work on it as I need and want to drive it more.

i went staggerred 18x9.5 in front and 18x11 in rear with factory correct offsets. If I'm happy with these my new P car will get wheels next year.

Yeah not to many choices of wheels for the C-4 ZR-1 it seems....I have the factory saw blades on my blk/blk 91...Wheels are in showroom condition ..I like the look of the A-mold but when they come up for sale the owners in my opinion are just asking way too much, sorry...

Shelby series 1s look great on the Z but same old story, when they come up for sale everybody wants top dollar ...

I've seen C-6 ZO-6 wheels and tires go for half of what a seller wants just for the A-mold wheels without the tires....

C-6 GS wheels do look real good on the Z like a previous member said...They can be had for a decent price....

Be sure to post some photos of those bronze wheels on your 91 blk/blk...I like your wheel choice....

When looking at the front tires you might want to checkout a 265-40-18 instead of the 275-35-18. The 265-40 is just tall enough to fill out the wheel well better than the 275. The 275 is 25.6 tall and the 265 is 26.3 I think. I never liked the idea of going with a smaller tire than an OEM size but this just worked for what I was after. The 275-40,285-35 were all too tall and the 265-40 is maybe 1-10,2-10s of an inch narrower than the 275-35,not enough to ever tell. I'm happy with it,should have gone with that from the start. This is with the 275-35.

This is with the 265-40.

Yes you can see the subtle difference....Thanks for posting this as I may down the line go to different wheels and tires on the Z...

I see you relocated the emblem to the correct position....See how much better it looks? Especially with a Z as nice as yours...

Peace....

I like a staggerd wheel set 18/19s. 20s are a bit much in my opinion.
The 18/19 combo gives the ZR a nice rake and a very cool stance.
Also, I am using 285-35s up front. 345-30s in back.

Jeff and Dom, thanks for the photos and advice!!!

Based on Jeff's photos, advice and tire availability I am going to go 265/40/18 in front and 305/30/19 in the rear. That's 0.7" in diameter larger than OEM in front and 0.5" larger in the rear. This will look good and keep the F/R height pretty close. 315/30/19s aren't readily available sadly. I will be running Bridgestones, Contis, or Kumhos. All Y speed rated with decent performance. If money were no object I'd go Michelin super sports.

The wheels are forgestar F14s in bronze burst exactly as pictured in one of my previous posts.

I would suggest that the 305's are too small. Before the 345s I had 325 Nitto Invos and they were very nice. In fact those are the ones in the pic I posted.

I can go 325/30/19 in the rear. My wheels are only 11" wide so that's my max width. That leaves me with Michelin, conti, and Bridgestone tire choices.
