That being said... neither of those cars have the feel of the ZR-1. Mike100 let me drive his ZR-1 and I believe he nailed my oppservation of the difference in feel of the power. My Z06 is brutally fast. Mike said the quality of the powerband of the LT5 just makes it feel different and special. The way the engine makes power just feels different.

I'm not planning on buying a ZR-1 to be my fastest car. I'm buying one cause of the feel of the car, the cockpit feel of the C4 platform, the amazing performance of an early 90's car, the little quirks of the C4 platform, the awesome sound, history, exclusiveness, power and beauty of that LT5.

I drove a ZR-1 and fell in love. Won't be my fastest. But may very well end up my favorite.

Some of my friends think I'm crazy for wanting a early 90's Vette, especially when you consider the cars I have already. I could go get a C7 Z06 if I wanted. But at the end of the day. I want to open my garage and see a C4 ZR-1's beautiful wide rear end staring back at me. (next to my Z06 of course lol)
Blackbelt, really like your response as I also own a black '08 Z06 and just purchased a '90 ZR-1 (black of course!). My reason was the same as yours: they are special Corvettes and no way intended to be my "fast" car, but it will probably be my most valued Corvette in the garage along with my '71 GTO.

93 LT1, I bought a new 90' L98 (R9G) and drove it 2yrs Then I bought my 92' Z which I still own.
The LT5 is bulletproof, just try to buy the newest and best one you can afford, avoid the moded ones
unless that's what your looking for.

Great response! I own both. The ZR-1 has "turbine" smooth power delivery and is not an intimidating car to drive. The ZR-1 feels refined compared to the Z06, which I love about it Yes, it is very fast on the highway, but the torque isn't there to scare you; not in the same way it is for the Z06. The Z06 flat out will kill you if you let it; and I'm not being obnoxious - kinda like riding an Arabian Stallion who knows if you're a good handler, it can smell you.

When I get out of the ZR-1 and then into the Z06, I really appreciate the Z06 for it's true performance capabilities; not for it's refinement even though the transmission is butter and quicker to use. They are very different driving experiences, but the ZR-1 is miles ahead of it in terms of driving refinement (don't hate on me, but it's Porsche like in many ways) - and that is a big compliment.

I've had C4's from Crossfire-Tuned Port-LT1-LT4-LT5, each is a step up, with the LT4 the closest to the LT5. The LT4 has great low-end power a well tuned stock one will stay with the stock LT5 until 3rd gear. An LT5 with some mods (Headers-Exhaust-P&P-Gears-Tune) will still run with stock C5-C6 Z06 and a stock base C7.

Five ZR-1s and one Standard 1990 with L98 all restored and NO Oil Leaks or Vacuum Leaks.
One LT5 Ported and several with SW Headers and Exhaust (including the L98). All with Aluminum Radiators and three with C5 Z06 Wilwood Brakes. All with ZF S6-40 Transmissions.

I could take anyone of them on a Cross Country Trip with NO Issues and All with high gas mileage (28 mpg in 6th gear)
