Where is the bottom?

I know I may get an argument over this but,Look at the prices they were asking for these cars new.....Some people paid upwards of 90K or even higher for these when they came out......
If I'm going to pay that much for a car back then it better have had over 500 horsepower and look somewhat radically different than the base C-4...Chevy could have stepped it up with the Z over the next few years but they chose to make the standard vette look more like the Z,plus they got it within 75-100 horse of the ZR-1...
Hey just enjoy them, mod them and use them......

I think the only thing that will make our cars go up in price now is attrition.
As we drive them and use them up, wrecks ect..., prices will inch up. Especially when there are fewer and fewer. How do I know this? I don't just an opinion. Two out the three I have, have very low miles. I'll give it a few more years and if nothing happens, I have two new cars to drive and mod. They are paid for and not hurting me.

That car was well bought, in my opinion, but not pristine. There were a couple of small items (front air dam, in particular) that worried me about how well that car was maintained. If the seller wasn't willing to fix a small item like that, did they really take care of the rest of the car? If I was in the market for a low mileage car right now, I would have been a player on that auction, though.

i was 27 in 1990 and when it was released I have to be honest, my first reaction was--It looks like the regular C-4.......Not that the C-4 is a bad looking platform but for the price, I was expecting a more radical look, like the sketches I saw...

They're still too young. Early C3's are just recently starting to come up. And not all of them. Those cars are 45+ years old. My Z just hit 23. It's just too soon.

While I agree that cosmetically the ZR1 and the wide body body upgrade took away the special look of the ZR1 the real difference was under the hood. They put a ZR1 on the dyno at the Bloomington Gold the year I was there. When he hit the power band the hair on my arms stood up and my heart stopped! That ZR1 motor is something else.

Early ones went over $100k.....in 1990 dollars! Although to put that in perspective, early 84's went over $50k....it actually drew more attention than the ZR-1s did later. ZR-1 asking prices have stayed fairly stable for the last 10 or so years....its demand that's fallen off. But we could be one magazine article away.....but then again who reads magazines anymore.

...but I don't really understand it in this case. I had several C4's and moved on because I did not care for the car as a whole however I always thought of the ZR1 was much different. The clamshell (on all C4's) is very cool...and over the top when it exposes the LT5. The view from the rear with the wider body and steam roller tires just looks menacing...specially when considering it's an early 90's car. They certainly hold their value better than a regular C4.
I assume it's what some above have said. It's just not old enough yet.

Look at 80s Porsches in comparison and it just makes no sense at all.
when I win the mega millions I'm going to start a ZR-1 crushing program until this is fixed. Or maybe a buy and race until destroyed one.

I disagree with making them look different. I mean I wouldn't have minded if it looked better lol.. but I love the way it looks. I love that it's subtle. And that right there is one reason why.. the typical Buyer for a corvette doesn't appreciate history and special vehicles like the average European buyer. Proof is in the pudding as horsepower sells American cars. Many corvette buyers look at c4s as obsolete because of power levels. With today's popularity of the LS in its own right many many typical corvette buyers have migrated towards LS as witnessed with 4th gen f bodies as well as c4s. If you look at porsches it isn't the case at all as 996s are going up.. we all know what's happened to the previous air cooled market.. these cars are much like C4s vs later generations except the C4s and the ZR-1 have many generational specific special features like the clamshell, tight cockpit interior, the LT5 etc. it will take time but I feel there will come a time when non-advanced computer controlled cars will be highly desired and the ZR-1 and base c4s as well will shine !
