Default ZR1 Windshield

What is the difference between the ZR1 windshield and the LT1. I have heard about the glass delaminating. Where, how and why does this happen?

That is my car in the picture. And it does get worse over time. Those pictures were taken on the day of that post. And now the window looks like this:

Mine doesn't look quite as bad as BIZ's although does have some in the upper corners. I know mine wasn't caused by sun because it was garage kept, at least for the past 7 years. I wish they'd make replacements at a decent cost! :yesnod:

even some of the corvettes in the museum have delamination. most of the windshields have this happen eventually.

fortunately the standard c4 windshield works OK and is reasonable, but if you are a purist and want the correct one, you will have to hunt and pay!!!

 Maybe it's the angle but that radar detector opening doesn't look big enough.

IMO, No matter what GM says, this is a defective part. I would have no problem replacing mine with the non-ZR1 version. Future NCRS implications be damned.
BTW, mine's starting to get worse, but did you ever notice the chevy "dustbuster" mini-vans with them, yeuch! Looks like an oil slick on the windsheild!

No, you're right - that's not a 90 windshield - 92 or newer?

Ahh, I didn't know they were different. See that, you learn something new every day.

I guess it's just a matter of time but my windshield currently has zero delamination issues.

Yeah - this is a strange phenomenon - my car now has 44K miles and no hints of delamination at all. Its a 90 - and I'm sure it has seen its fair share of the sun. Personally, I doubt it is the sun that causes the delamination - I'm betting that something else is the culprit - maybe during fabrication, some sort of contamination in the layers? I have a stone chip in my windshield, and at that point you can see a slit in the laminate - I figured that it would definitely get worse and then get hazy - but it hasn't - Apple Auto glass doesn't want to fix the chip as they think the laminate might haze - so I wait for delamination.

Why do some windshields suffer, while others show on signs? It's not year specific - hey, did any of the lumina minivans suffer delamination?

It is all in the manufacturing process the last ZR-1 built on april 28th 1995 that's my B-day by the way... has spent most of its life in the museum and ill be damned if that baby doesn't have worse delaminating than my 90 I have a little bit up in the top corners....
