Quaife Differential, Detroit TrueTrac
What can anyone tell me abount the Quaife gear type differential? While pricy ($2K?), I hear that these units offer dramatic time reductions in road racing and auto cross, but are rated to take severe drag racing abuse as well.
I also saw something on the Viper forum, that there is a now a "Super 44 Detroit TrueTrac" torque biasing differential available, similar to the Quaife. My understanding is that it is considerably less expensive but very similar in design and construction. Anyone have the low down on this one?

put your 2k somewhere else. the factory posi is pretty strong and isn't the weak link in the drivetrain IMHO.
the quaiffe is nice, but not that dramatically superior to the factory unit because it works pretty well.
run the super dana 44 viper gears and you should be ok.

Can you tell me what the differences are between the Viper Super 44 gears and the corvette dana 44 gears? Where can these be purchased?

check with your local mopar dealer. al kindler is a cheaper source. they are .25 bigger than the stock dana 44 and machined better so they run quiet.
not cheap though. Al used to sell them for around 300, I think the dodge dealer gets around 400 or more.
maybe someone can chime in with a better source.

Dana 44 pinions have a 1 3/8" pinion shaft diameter that uses a spot-welded collar to make up the size difference(weaker, too). The Super 44 is 1 5/8". The Dana 44 gearsets require a smaller, weaker yoke. Some of the Dana 44 gearsets (3.92,4.09.4.27,etc) require the purchase of a four series posi carrier;expensive. To the best of my knowledge, all the Super 44 gearsets keep the three series carrier. The old gearsets are generally more expensive. Not much reason to use them, anymore,as a result.
Manual trans C4's from 1985-96 came with Super 44 gearsets.
Al Kindler no longer sells Super 44 gearsets to the general public. He told me that in our last conversation.
