War story of buying a c4

Watch them mechanic check outs, they will nit pick and give big estimates on anything. A ten + old car will need tons of work according to the mechanic no matter what, and it will be mostly stuff you can let slide. The mechanic is also trying to get as much as he can from someone, inspecting a car for 75 a pop is easy work, no tear down or install required, just look at some key wear points every car has, write up a doom and gloom estimate, and you'll be back to him with a second, third, forth car to inspect. I had a guy bring me his Vette that the mechanic gave him a 5,000 dollar estimate (91 vert) to make road safe, I had him out on the road for 1,000 which included a nice used aftermarket exhaust he bought from me.

B4 I bought my 92 had it checked ata vette shop and their were couple things that needed replacement, the replacement prices seemed too high for my liking so I checked around and did things for less than 1/2 the shop price! FYI>>>>>it can be done!

Nice thing about the c4 is they are never really beyond repair. They hold up well against rust /corrosion and If have generally stout drivelines. Whoever said 20k to get one sorted is out of there mind 2-3 K on a rough car can really make it a nice driver again less if you take the work yourself. I'm trying to snatched up the the cheap fixer uppers now while there still cheap. Don't forget the mid 70s vettes were going for 2-3k 10 years ago now you can't get a basket case c3 for under 5. The same will happen to the c4 so... get um while there hot.

As someone who just sold a very clean and well loved 65K mile '94 Polo Green 6 Speed that already went through an inspection by a Corvette specialist, I can say what I wished I had known when I started this process six months ago:
From what I can tell, there is a hard limit of about $10K on the non-ZR1 C4's. If it's in perfect shape, low miles, good colors, no mechanical issues or mods - this is where you should start. Anything negative - mechanical or cosmetic - drops the price from here. I wish I had started my dad's car at the $9995 OBO, because I think I would have gotten a lot more requests from real buyers.
