WTT my 1985 Monte Carlo SS for 90-96 6-speed
I am looking to see if anyone is interested in a trade for my 1985 Monte Carlo SS that has been my pride and joy for the past 16 years. I have built the car to perform like a Corvette with a backseat--it was pro-touring before the term was coined. It is the best off all worlds, car shows, autocrossing, drag racing, power tours.
Being a parts manager in a GM dealership has allowed me to complete this car with the best parts available while using the most skilled professionals to help pull it off. Over $30,000 invested over the years and the car is completely sorted and as reliable as a brand new vehicle off the showroom floor. Everything done to the car has performance, reliability, and overall driveability in mind.
I am ready to step up to my high school dream car--a 1990-1996 six speed Corvette. Please message me if interested and for more details, I am not looking for a project car, something that can be driven across country without hesitation. I would rather have a well-maintained Corvette than a low-mileage one.
Harwood fiberglass hood
Chrome plated 17-inch American Racing Torque Thrust 2 wheels (2-piece)
Full Hotchkis suspension lowered 2-inches---very nice smooth ride and handles flat.
LS1 electric fans with custom stainless steel shrouds.
Factory replicated tach with 8,000 RPM readout.
Near stock interior with 2003 Corvette CD player-stereo.
Grand National 8.5 inch rear axle with Corvette Z06 rear discs.
Eagle 383 stroker assembly.
Professionally internal balanced and blue printed crank.
Factory roller block, ZZ383 specs.
Speed pro hyperutectic pistons with anti-friction coatings.
450 horsepower, 450 lb ft. torque
R134a retrofit air conditioning.
New fuel tank and all fuel lines--braided and hard line.
Billet catch can.
16 miles per gallon and 12-second quarter mile speeds.

The paint is in amazing condition. The previos owner was a paint and body guy and spent 3 years on the car. All panel gaps are perfect, months and months were spent block sanding the body to make it laser straight. It was painted in 1998, and the previous owner made it so perfect, he was afraid to drive it. That's when I bought it and have cared for it meticulously. Always in garage and covered up. Zaino products used which do not remove any surface layers of clear coat. I have the original steel hood in my basement that has not seen daylight in 15 years.
Mileage on the vehicle is currently 130,000. However, everything has been updated and drivetrain is like new. Engine has 10,000 miles and is tuned to perfection, Holley 750 vacuum secondary carb starts up with just a bump of the key. I thought about switching to fuel injection, but mine starts and runs better than any computer controlled I have ever driven. Transmission is a full billet 200-4r built by Extreme Automatics--Lonnie Diers in Ohio. It can handle over 800 hoursepower. Also has billet non-lockup converter that gives amazing throttle response and torque multiplication yet still gets 16 mpg on highway trips.
I am very detail-orientated. All fluids are changed yearly, belts and hoses just changed last week. Oil is changed once a month in summer along with spark plugs to make sure the engine is tuned perfectly. Trans fluid is currently being changed in the garage right now. Yesterday, I just installed new rear tires since the old ones were 5 years old. I went with the Continental Extreme Contact AS tires. Same ones used on new Camaro SS...very nice tire.

Trans fluid all changed, everything looks very good, very little residue. I cleaned up the Art Carr cast aluminum deep pan.
Trans temp gauge never gets above 180 degrees....fluid nice and clean.
Fluid changed every year using Dexron VI.

outright sale
I would prefer a trade for a 6 speed Corvette that would normally sell for $10,000-$15,000.
Outright sale would have to be $13,000 which is on the high end for a Monte Carlo SS. Modified cars are always difficult to sell, you just need to find the right buyer that can appreciate (and willing to pay) for the work that went into the car.

Keep the Monte and buy a cheap Vette.

It will increase in value every year.
People that never drove one would be surprised at how well they handle stock, not to mention the suspension upgrades you have done. Your wheel/tire combo, cal hood and no stripes make the car look great!
My stock 3.73 posi rear is about to die. I ran slicks at the track until I broke an axle. I would kill for a grand national 8.5 ! Can't locate one so my next option is a 8.8 Mustang rear. This is my beater 86 with original paint. It's stuck in the 80's for now, but hope to make some changes as I can. It's a 383 200R4 car also with cold A/C.

I am now a member of the Corvette society as of this afternoon. I took delivery of my 1996 CE LT4...15,000 miles and in museum condition. I could not be happier to have my dream car in my garage tonight!!

Traded for it. Only mod will be new tires and the origional GSC EMT's will be stored for origionality.
I just had the coolant flushed today and just plan to enjoy the car as is. The power of the LT4 is great. If the horsepower bug bites me--I'll have to trade up to a C5 Z06.

Just send it to DRM in Mnnesota, they will turn it into what your Monte was
Because you know your going to get the HP bug
I loved my 96 LT4, only had 8200 original miles on it , but it had a full build up from DRM.
Enjoy
