Default 40th Anniversary

Hi all,

I came across this and was interested. I saw the car and drove it, everything seemed to be as it should, drove nice etc..... My only concern is that the clutch engaged very high almost to the top. Most manuals I drove engaged somewhere in the middle, but this was very high. What does that tell you? Any advice would be appreciated

I had one of those, it means the clutch is just about toast, you can dive it but plan on putting a clutch in soon.

As I stated on another post about this clutch that there may be a problem with fluid in the hydraulics, slave cylinders. With the low miles and little use it could be a dry throw out bearing and perhaps some rust on the impute shaft from sitting long periods of time. If it was really hot roded a lot it may have gotten hot and warped it like disk brakes do. One way to check it out is to put it up on a hoist, pull inspection plate, see the movement and how much dust is in there. Like I think someone else, try some other c4 's out, just could be your imagination!

You can change slaves and master cylinders all you want the clutch is still thin and needs to be replaced that is why it grabs so high up.

With a fresh clutch it will grab at half pedal.

I went thru this with a 90 with 45K miles on it, another thing you need to worry about is the dual mass flywheel if the car sounds rattly at and idle in N with the clutch out, the flywheel has too much slop and needs to be replaced.

The last time I looked the flywheels were selling for $1100.00 if you were lucky enough find one because they stopped making them.
