Issue is the c5 especially the z06 is the best value of a sports car period. With the c6 z06 having guide issues and dropping valves blowing motors many stay with the tried and true c5 z06. Along with the c7 z06 being so far out of reach and even that motor overheats and has issues. All this brings up the value o the c5 model. Myself knowing that if i even considered selling my 03 z06 the price tag would be heafty. Why? Because what the hell else do you buy? So save your money young buck and be patient and wait for the right z06 to come your way. And hold out for the z06 trust me. It will be a car you will want to keep forvever

Have you drove a ls2? 💩. They are nothing great. Now the 08 ls3 different story. Im meaning more the ls6 z06. He was asking why they are so expensive and the answer is easy. Because they are probally the best sports car available for the money.

He means that c5 prices will drop and there will be some good deals on the c5. Im not so sure with the z06. But any car loses value over time and is only worth what someone will pay. Good luck on finding a c5 z. My personal favorite car. I have a 03 z06 and would never sell it. Ive had literally every other sports car and the z is the best hands down.

I hear ya on the pricing just curious that was all. I have been down that same road as you and have had so many different cars and really want to get back into a Z. The pricing I will say is all over the board, but that's the same with any car. There are some really good deals and some guys asking 28k for a 01 Z with 60k miles on it.

You really should not have any problems finding a car in your price range - they are out there. Be patient and if need be, travel a distance to get one.

Yes and no. I just bought a bone stock 2004 with 84k for $13k off Craigslist, but that was basically the best deal to be had in my area (didn't really want to travel much). There was another at about the same price with more miles, that had some suspension mods, but the mods made the car impractical to DD because it was so low it'd scrape on a piece of gum stuck on the road. The rest of the CL fodder was basically overpriced.
So CL can be good, but isn't necessarily so.
The other issue is all the fumbducks thinking that their $4000 in mods (including labor) makes their car worth $4000 more than unmodded equivalent cars.

The key is bolded. Set out with a specific car, color, options and wait.
Trick to this is having all your ducks in a row and be ready to pounce.
Good deals do not last long.
But they are most certainly out there.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you as far as what I can pay for a 'Vette, I've been looking at a whole lot of sites with private owners & Dealers, I'm wondering why I see more Dealers offering Cars in our price range than Private Owners ? I know a zillion People are going to jump in & say all Dealers are LIARS but I've found as much or more honesty among them as Private Owners ! Oh, that's right, you nailed it "Everybody's sitting on Gold Mines"

Best bet is to monitor CL daily, there will be maybe one good one a month, I would recommend get one with around 60kmiles, the interior gets a lot of rattling which is very annoying,the plastic interior is extremely cheap,try to get an 04 for around 15k, if you get one that rides rough or rattles your view of Corvettes will really change

Thanks, I started out with a 100,000+ mile '58 back in the early Seventies ! Everything these days feels like a limo compared to that ! Thanks for your advice, I've got a local one owner 2000 to look at today with 53,000 on it for $13,800. I've got my doubts, but I've got my fingers crossed

Ok, I'm going to try a slightly different approach. When I was in school 22 years ago, the thought of owning a Vette was simply out of the question and put to the back burner. I focused on school and graduated. Then when I went back to grad school, again it was put to the back. The point I am hoping to make is that in order to be where I am today, I own a '59 and a '66, is that I had to sacrifice and focus then I could come back and play. This is a suggestion (take it or leave it), take time to focus on school/training so that you can earn that really great job that will ultimately allow you to buy one of these fun cars (and never go into debt just to buy a toy).
I kinda agree, I paid my way through college- these are not good cars for college kid- they have plenty of $500-$1000 "issues" pop up, tires are a grand. Get school behind you then treat yourself to whatever you can afford in cash..

I have bought a couple cars off this forum, generally they are more $ than craigslist (not always, I have found some great deals here) I prefer to buy one from an enthusiast. At least that makes me feel they took better care of the car.

So, I want to be in the market to purchase a C5 but I have found something that I find... Well upsetting.
As a paying-my-way through school college student, my budget is limited. But as a car guy, there are toys I want to have and love.
Starting my search for a C5 at corvette world of Dallas proved to be out of my league. 30,000 mile cars for $26,000.
Needless to say, it's not what I'm looking for.
But even looking one here, I see people posting their 80-100k mile cars for upwards of $20,000. So, what gives? How can your car be a better example of the breed? I hate to offend anybody, but I feel that nobody is saying anything because it's simply a group of people with money to blow, and us young guns stand to the side and out of the way.
I guess that's all I have to say.
I'd like to find a nice example of a C5 to purchase. I'm looking in the $12-$14k range AT THE TOP. And up to 100k miles. If you have anything or spot anything, let me know. I'd love to find my little piece of corvette heaven.

If you can't find a reasonable car in your budget then you aren't looking very hard. There's no excuse when there are so many resources available such as craigslist and autotrader.
