WTB, Everybody's Sitting on Gold Mines?
So, I want to be in the market to purchase a C5 but I have found something that I find... Well, upsetting.
As a paying-my-way through school college student, my budget is limited. But as a car guy, there are toys I want to have and love.
Starting my search for a C5 at corvette world of Dallas proved to be out of my league. 30,000 mile cars for $26,000.
Needless to say, it's not what I'm looking for.
But even looking one here, I see people posting their 80-100k mile cars for upwards of $20,000. So, what gives? How can your car be a better example of the breed? I hate to offend anybody, but I feel that nobody is says anything because it's simply a group of people with money to blow, and us young guns stand to the side and out of the way. Then cars sit for sale and never move when there are plenty of guys shopping.
So I pose a question. What kind of car will I get if I'm looking to spend $12-14k MAX? I know there has got to be stuff out there. I'd like to find a nice example of a C5 to purchase. I stopped my search out of frustration and have only been saving more to put toward a project. On top of that, My 2011 Camaro is now paid off.
Ultimately I want a Coupe with a 6 speed, not much else matters.
All the best,
R

Drifting
Prices are a lot higher when weather is nice. There are plenty of C5s in the $12-14k range, with around 80k miles, manual, mostly stock. Plenty. But they are probably getting driven right now. Wait until the winter, when they're sitting in garages and taking up space and money, and the ones that haven't been driven in a while get pointed to in connubial arguments.

You just have to keep looking. I just picked up a near mint 55k mile Speedway White Z06 with a clean Carfax for $18,900. The deals are out there, you just have to be patient.

hang in there
I just bought a 99 with 42k on the clock. The guys wife let the garage door down on the targa. I found a new old stock top on craigslist for 600 and the rubber window seal for 150 bucks. So for 13,000 I am very happy to drive a really nice ride, oh and a couple of small plastic pieces off ebay for less than 20 dollars, well worth it and so much fun to fix these small problems and search for the good deals.
Matter of fact, if you want some searching help, I for one will help and probably others here.
I know there was a very nice lemans model in eastern Kentucky I really thought about that was around 16k. They listed it for more but came down over the telephone with just some casual conversation.
There are several good deals out there, just keep looking and don't get too impatient.
good luck

Corvette World is expensive. Check out Craigslist in Dallas.

Here is one in Dallas that might be worth a look. The seller seems motivated. He has posted listings in several cities.

I am just shopping prices currently, but there are definitely some good deals out there just need to keep shopping/looking around.
Some of the prices on auto trader are really high so just a matter of waiting for the right deal to come along and jump on it.
I hate CL but could be another option.

Ok, I'm going to try a slightly different approach. When I was in school 22 years ago, the thought of owning a Vette was simply out of the question and put to the back burner. I focused on school and graduated. Then when I went back to grad school, again it was put to the back. The point I am hoping to make is that in order to be where I am today, I own a '59 and a '66, is that I had to sacrifice and focus then I could come back and play. This is a suggestion (take it or leave it), take time to focus on school/training so that you can earn that really great job that will ultimately allow you to buy one of these fun cars (and never go into debt just to buy a toy).

Safety Car
I picked up my 02Z late last fall with 134K miles on it, other than a few items that needed repairing costing me under 300 for parts, I'm very happy with the car now at 140.
The closer it is to stock the better off you are, when I saw go fast parts and aftermarket sound equipment I passed on the cars.
A low number of owners is better than a low miles on the speedometer, you can fake the miles driven, anything is possible get one as close the original owner as possible.

I know 16.5 is a little bit out of your range.. but it's got half the mileage youre wanting. 41k, never seen rain in its entire life. car is super mint and still smells brand new inside!
