How does an accident impact value? ASAP

How does an accident impact value? ASAP
Looking for opinions from both sides here.
2000 coupe, manual with 72k miles. Only mods are cai, catback, and HRE wheels.
Autocheck says an accident in 2005 and I can't tell it ever happened.
Whatt do you guys think on value? I know what I can get it for but don't want to influence opinions based on that. It has HUD and I believe most all options. Not sure how I could determine the trim level.
I am hoping to avoid the "it's worth what you are willing to pay". I definitely agree but trying to ballpark the value. I only buy cars with "meat on the bone" but am new to the c5 world.

$11-12k depending on the accident and repair details. You can find lots of these for sale so you can take your pick.

Accidents depend on severity. Everyone is going to try to knock down price, because of it. It can be a scratch or the whole front end. You really need to look at car from top to bottom to try figure out what happened and how much damage. When driving does it rattle a lot? Some body shops can straighten a car better than new. Is it too perfect? How many times it has changed hands can be an indicator. The mods as desirable as the are don't increase cars value. You could start at the low retail value of kelly or NADA value maybe a little less. Pricing will vary by area and time of year.

Thanks. I'm in Kansas do right now so it's a buyers market. Car is tight as a drum. I agree mods don't add full value but the HRE wheels are big $. Wheels could be resold for a lot more than the value they add while in the car. To me mods retain about 20-30% of value. You put two identical cars next to one another, that aren't ultra low miles or rare, and the modded car will go for more.

Depends on the mods. Some decrease the value. High quality parts installed by a reputable shop may add value if the buyer doesn't think they're stupid.
It highly depends on the accident. I wouldn't care much if the result was a new bumper (nice to get a discount for it) but I wouldn't buy one that needed a while new rear end.

I was an auto appraiser for a few years. Here's what you need to check. From the factory paint is very smooth, obviously on corvette you can't use a paint meter because it's fiberglass not metal. So look at all of the seams from the affected parts. Rough edges? Probably. Minus 10% value, on auto check minus another 5-10%. Then check the frame if there has been ANY welding or frame repair, we'll that sucks - 40-50%.
Pictures of the damage and repair would help in determining value loss. Did you make the insurance company give you diminished value? You should have, it can be alot of $ and if you don't know/ask you won't get it.
Edit: as an afterthought and damage to a pillar is frame damage no matter how you slice it. I've seen a car with a golf ball size dimple in the a piller, it got certified at the auction as frame damage and we lost a lot of $ on that deal.

I can't look at the frame right now as it's a few hours away. I think frame damage would have salvaged the car but I'm sure it goes the other way too. This car retains a clean title. From my experience with other performance cars that aren't that new anymore a salvage title doesn't even reduce value by 50% anymore. I think anyone on this board would jump at the opportunity to buy this car 40-50% below value with an accident and clean title. Immaculate and no wreck I think it's a $14k car.
I really appreciate the feedback. Inn just thinking out loud with my responses.

Just because someone's willing to pay something dosnt mean it's worth it or someone won't pay it. The Honda guys be like frame damage, modded, 3k over kbb please. Don't base it on what your willing to pay, it's worth what someone else is willing to pay.
I though you were selling not buying.
Go look at a newish car, feel the area where the body panels meet. It will be as smooth as the hood or fender all the way around the lip. Go look at an old beater and check the same things more than likely it will be bumpy and almost rough looking if it's been painted. About 1 in 50 have paint jo be that I an experienced person can't tell with a quick glance. With a detailed look you should be able to tell as well.
Try to get the car on a lift, from the factory everything under the car should be uniform. Look for blobs of body glue, unusual welds, odd spot welds. Check the alignment of body panels. 9 out of 10 times with only minor damage you won't have issues down the road. But we are talking about a high performance machine, with all the great deals out there you should be careful. Now all these warning can be negated by price, if it's 6k then who cares. If it's the same price or 500$ than the next one...
Without seeing the car in person or at least alot of pics it's hard to give you good advice, just warnings. Maybe it's a stellar car that just got a shopping cart smashed into it and had some paintwork. Maybe it went off the road into a ditch and bent the frame and only had the rockers repainted and Noone noticed the frame damage (seen it).
In the end it's what you don't want to hear. What will you pay for it?
Remember a good deal is just a mindset.

Wouldn't buy a car that's been in an accident. You have no way of knowing the extent of the damage or how well it was repaired. Even if it was repaired perfectly and you get it at a nice discount (best case scenario), you are going to have a hard time selling for the exact same reason you are hesitating right now. Too many nice, no accident C5's out there to settle for someone else's wreck.

Hard to say.....where was the accident....like just a small crunch to a bumper or door and not extensive enough to get the frame or pop an airbag? You say title is clean..so based on that and the condition of the car...I would say 12-13k. I think to myself now...."what could I turn around and resell this for tomorrow if I had to?". If I couldn't break even or make a little...then it is priced to high for me and I would try to get the price down.

I'll post up a few more photos in a minute. Only have a few on my phone. I'll check all of those things thoroughly.
Again I appreciate it. It makes me feel better about it that the accident was 11years ago and not recent. I think it would have reared it's ugly head by now if it was a ****** repair to the body. I think if there was any paint work at all that it must have been good. That's the crappy thing about autocheck/carfax... really no info to be had and could be substantially wrong as I have seen it before.
To me a really good deal on it would be 10.5 but we aren't quite that low yet on our discussions. Sure there are some cars that go for that w/out history... but they are very rare. The red FRC I quoted in my wanted ad is a needle in a haystack but they are out there.

For me I would need to know what was damaged before I bought.
Also huge is your intended use for it?
DD not a big deal, track car at high speeds and frame damage might be a hell of a lot more important.
Also how long do you see yourself with the car. Some like to keep them forever, others a year or 2.
So with that in mind for 1-2 years I would never get involved with it as it would be a pita to sell.
But like they say there is an *** for every seat. I have sold cars that were in an accident and since it was only minor fender damage repair, they had no problem ploping down close to the asking price.
I would not pay more than 12k and it would have to be spectacular with all the maint. history. But again...thats just me.
There are a ton out there, so unless it's a steal, I would wait.
Best of luck whatever you decide.

Salvaged Corvettes Are Hidden Jewels
First off as long as you can confirm there has been no frame damage, no airbag deployment and the repairs were done by certified repair specialist you can't go wrong with buying a salvaged vehicle. Still good as new plus you save lots of money. LET THE OTHER PEOPLE MISS OUT. They are the ones paying the crazy prices. I bought 10 salvaged Corvettes last year and sold every single one of them. Every single buyer was happy as they could be. GO FOR IT. Just do your homework.

You can call the insurance companies and track down the repair shop plus the pictures from the insurance company. All kinds of ways of tracking down the real truth about the car especially if you like it enough. Just a few phone calls away. That frame damage is my number one concern. Take care
