Default Good writeup on LS coils - LS2 truck coils for FI?

http://www.megamanual.com/seq/coils.htm

"These LS2 coils are incredible. Even compared to the LS1 coil, these are just crushers! On the LS1 coil there is around 40 milliamps of peak secondary current with 5 milliseconds of dwell time. On the LS2/truck coil (AC Delco D585), there is 120 milliamps! "

These were the coils selected for use on the ASA racing engine.

Are the LS2 coils interchangable with the LS1 coils? If not what is needed to convert to the LS2 coil?

I guess the real question is why try and reinvent the wheel?? There are hundreds, if not a few thousand LARGE cid, TT'd, S/C'd 8-13 second cars running LS1 coils.

Its been proven time and time again that the LS1 coils are sufficient for the capabilities/limitations of the car.

Does that mean that thee isnt something better??? Heck no, cause according to that thread, there is. But what purpose does it serve if the current product is doing just as good for the technology we have..

Case in point: MSD coils..Their a JOKE..They do nothig more than lighten a persons wallet, and give them some red looking "Bling." Other than that, if not set up properly, they burn up faster and cause more damage than the 40 dollar part they replaced..

I do NOT disagree that the LS2 coils ar not superior, but I just dont think the modification will net ANY more than less money for other parts that DO matter..

Blu: Quit it already.. Get yur car running and enjoy the darned thing.. The C11 will be out by the time you stop buying parts..

According to the wiring diagrams, the pinout signals are the same. The connectors may be different, however the article gives links to the pigtails. The article refers to the truck coils as "GM# 10457730 or AC Delco D585 (also Wells C1251, Standard UF262, GM/Daewoo 190005218). "

Hey, isn't that the point of the forum? To make each other spend our money on parts?

It's running, but the tune ain't done yet. Synergy is whittling a crank pulley.

Hey you guys I'm thinkin a blower car like mine running 20lbs of boost "could" benefit from the LS2 Truck coils allowing a bit wider gap than the .035 we all use! Looking carefully at the drawings the LS1 and LS2 coils have different orientations with their plugs (the orientation notches). That prompted my question. Coil brackets - are they the same? Coil bolt positions look different! I went through a set of MSD coils and went back to the LS1 stock coils. I'm allways lookin for a better mouse trap for the "Barbie Vette"!
