Default Anyone interested in laying down the radiator...

So now that I have time since I am waiting for my block to be machined, I have been toying w/ the idea of laying down the radiator and intercooler something like goa2head.

So today I had time to re-clock the head unit and look @ what for hoses and pipes i would need to fab up.

Honestly if you have Andy's earlier kit, this is a somewhat simple swap. You just need 3 more 90* elbows and some straight pipe.

Right now I just have the radiator & ac condensor zip tied up till I fab up a lower bracket.

The next biggest problem I can see is running the line from the top of the A/C condensor to the dryer.

Any suggestions on how to run a line or what I could use to replace that line would be great.

I know the bottom condesor line will be plenty long but the top one is goin to be about 1-1½ foot too short.

My two cents....

The more bends you place in the pipes, the more restrictions that you add...

Just could leave good enough alone... I have the same issue, always tinkering with things.

I like the zip tie mounts.

Default Looks simular to my set up

I can't post pics from work, but very like mine. I found mine still was getting hot in stop and go summer traffic with a Ron Davis Radiator. So I just bought a 1.25in twin core for an added 1/2 inch of cooling then added a Dewitts Hi-Flo twin fan system. I hope this fixs the problem here in the bay area you can't avoid traffic now and then.

C5kid, do you have a plan for supplying cool air to the blower inlet?

look at the stock ATI units, those things are a piping nightmare, yet made good power.
I believe easyvette, has stock ATI dual intercooler kit w/ a D1 & is putting down 770+ at the tire and just got booted at the track for goin over 135 (since he doesn't have a full cage yet)

As far as getting cold fresh air in... not sure yet. That may be an easy fix to do what PFADT did.

If you look to the lower right you can see how they have their fresh air intake. & YES it will probally be a PIA to get to the filter & clean it, i really don't care, when you start getting into the stuff we get into, you lose some luxury.

A bunch of the road racer cars that I have seen do this. Not sure what cooling advantage it provides, but it sure does open up some space in the engine compartment.

That set up looks like it would be good for an air to water inner cooler.

Yup got the stock ATI dual intercoolers. There not on the car they are on the shelf the car has a front mount. I like Justin cant wait to see how it turns out. Looks very roomy to say the least.

You could just run a filter right off the inlet, that would yield the least amount of restriction (which equals the most amount of boost with a filter). I like the idea, with these cars being bottom breathers for the most part your car should stay pretty cool.

Trust me i am goin to keep this post updated. I have the new intercooler and elbows on their way now.

I will show a size comaprison of the A&A intercooler to the new one. Not bashing A&A, they have great products, but I have an earlier kit and it was the 19x8x3 intercooler. Now A&A & ECS shove those MONSTER intercoolers up in there.

Ok boys, my intercooler & 90* bends showed up on Fri, so I had some time this weekend to finish plumbing the rest of the way up to the intake.

Here is just a shot of the A&A intercooler next to the one picked up.

So here are the shots of the plumbing...

Looks good there big boy. Curious to see how the clearance is off the ground. Hard to tell in the pics...

Clearance is really good!!! This is one thing I was concerned about, but once I put the pipes in place they are pretty much flush w/ the bottom of the engine cradle.

How was that ride home from Park City then Mike? Freaken crazy... guy out cruising around in a 800+ hp car in 35* temps. I bet she was LOVING the cold air.

How much room do you have between the intercooler and rad? Are you going to box everything in? And dont forget there is alot more to an intercooler than size.

there is about an 1" gap between the intercooler and A/C condensor, plan on boxing everything in to keep the air pushing up through everything.

Yea, I was reading up on intercoolers, looking at CFM & pressure drops. You kinda get boxed in when you need a certain size & what not.

Just a question, isn't the older intercooler you have just as efficient as the new one because Andy's was vertical flow which most say are more efficient which means you don't need as big of a core?

Yes it should flow as well, but look at the length of the cores, very short. this means the new intercooler should cool the air more than the older one but with similar presure drop. obviously longer cores do add some restriction.

Chris.
