Default My Alky Control Install

Just thought I would post my experience of my install and some tips.

When installing everything on the tank, check for leaks! This is a must do. I had a tiny leak, but was able to fix it by readjusting the rubber around the tank level sensor.

If you are going to put the controller in the glove box, get some wire, a long screw driver, and a flash light. Tape the wire to the end of the screw driver. Place the flash light on the passenger side floor board. Look through behind the dash till you can see light (over the drivetrain hump). Slight the screw driver though with wire attached. Attach the cat5 wire to the end of the wire then pull back through. To do all of this you will need to remove the glove box (tutorial on that can be found with an easy search).

Use silicon lube when putting the outside washer on the jet. I spent 30 min trying to put the rubber/metal wash on the outside of the jet. Took be about 4 seconds to twist it on with the silicon.

If you have a non mechanical boost gauge (like mine), just attach extra wire to the MAP sensor. Make sure to zip tie this away from the headers and away from the utters (water drains) underneath the windshield.

Start small when drilling the gauge pillar for the light. You will need a cylinder file to slowly grind away so it fits perfectly.

Thats about all I can think of so far. Any questions just ask

Do you just drill a hole in the aluminum charge pipe, tap it and screw in the nozzle? Did you use any sealant around that nozzle? Im fairly positive that welding a bung into the aluminum isn't going to work. Just curious for when I do my alky control install. Is that the A&A mafless charge pipe?
Thanks,
Greg

The kit comes with two washers that are rubber on one side, metal on the other. These sandwhiching the pipe seal it around the nozzle area.

And yep, that's the A&A mafless pipe.

Looks great! For those of us running a MAF still would we have to mount the nozzle after the IAT sensor in the Silicone coupler, after MAF and before TB?

Putting the nozzle before the IAT allows for the ecu to pull back on the timing in case the flow of methanol is stopped. Just a safety thing. If you are running a MAF that houses the IAT you would not be able to do this unless you installed another standalone IAT like mine. Not sure it this would work but I am imagining it like this

MAF (no IAT) -> Nozzle -> IAT

Yes, the LED that came with the kit. It can be seen right next to the boost gauge. It shows the kit is working.

Have this kit on both my Buicks, i'm able to run 25psi boost with no knock on pump gas Without it could only run 15psi

What psi are you running now and how much are you planning on raising it to? or is it just for insurance?

I hope to get my Vett boosted next Spring

Would those work putting the nozzle in the silicone coupler?

So I understand and am learning more and more each day about Meth. With a supercharger I understand this is a good "insurance policy" to have but obviously is not a requirement otherwise A&A and ECS would have it included with all their kits...my question....

At what point is it cost effective and a better insurance policy to go the route of Meth? I mean...if I put a charger on my 2002 with 90,000 on the clock and tune it conservatory (keep it around 5-6 psi boost) so that Iam right around 500-525 at the wheels and I drive it sensibly (no clutch drops or hole shots) and no high RPM shifts above 5000, would most say adding Meth would be a waste of my money for my driving style and horsepower output? Is it easy to add this later should my driving style change and I want to boost more? Right now I really would like to add a charger next year but am also on a tight budget. The car still has it's stock clutch in it so that would obviously be on my list first but I figured if I do everything above that I should be ok for a year or so till I can afford to do the clutch

So again..at what point do you consider Meth. What is the cost of a add on kit?

Thanks Chris. This orange wire runs directly to the ignition switch?
