Default Engine Swap: Would this be degrading??

I am just curious how people would feel on doing a complete engine swap on a C5 vette to the 4JJ1 Duramax engine from Chevy Colorado?

I ask because it would be a fun swap and nearly pay for itself since a used 4JJ1 engine is accessible for under $500 used....

The 4JJ1 Duramax Engine Specs

Inline 4 cylinder
Commonrail Diesel
150hp
292tq

Total shipping weight of a 4JJ1 engine is 461lbs, isnt a LS1 engine 520+ lbs...???

The reason i ask is because Team Thailand just set a few world record with there drag truck.. If you are unfamiliar with there truck it was in Texas recently and broke all kinds of records pulling off a 7.83 1/4 mile before the turbocharger grenaded from 2 stepping...

They recently redid the setup with compound turbo's and larger injection pump system and dyno'd out over 800whp/2200wtq....and ran a 6.94 1/4 mile in Europe...

These engines are pretty amazing because in the 3700lb colorado chasis.. they pull off 28mpg city and 44mpg highway..

I wouldn't do it bu that's just me. Of course putting anything less than 8 cylinders in your corvette would be considered morally degrading but it's your car. Screw the haters, give it s shot.

There's some guy putting a 2JZ swap in a C5 right now.

If your looking at the swap purely on a budget perspective forget about it. Unless you have the ability and resources to fabricate your own stuff, It's going to cost you more than a typical LS swap in the same car. When I say typical im taking ls1/6 to 2 ot 3 not the 7 9 or A series.

you really think??
From everything i have read up on the engine.. it uses a diesel geared version of the T-56 basicly.. and the bolt pattern bolts directly up.. the only differences would be the wiring, engine mounts, and fueling.... the OEM ecu of this engine is completely tunable through HPtuners or EFIlive..

Well i'm pretty sure the 4JJ1 is a Isuzu engine. So a little degrading, YES. But to each his own.

Wouldn't be the first Isuzu diesel in a Chevy. Think Duramax.

Will the engine fit vertically? Looks like you'll have to custom fabricate a new intake manifold.

BTW a complete LS1 with oil weighs in at 430 lbs. Iron block LS engines are a bit over 500.

I certainly don't think the swap would "pay for itself", but it would be an interesting venture.

Bad idea. If you want a swap to pay for itself do a 5.3 and a turbo. It will probably make more power anyway

5.3 is old news. If you want a diesel then do it and turn the boost up.
