Best street tire for 18" Z06 wheel & 650 hp
Have read through many discussions on here about tires - but most pertain to 15", 17" or 19". Have not really found an answer..
Supercharged roughly 650rwhp - what is the best around town/messing around 18" tire?
I have a set of stock Z06 18x10.5 wheels to mount them on. Was leaning towards 315/40/18 NT05R's not sure if they will fit.
Would like to mini tub it in the future if I cannot get it to hook on a 10.5 rim. Maybe next winter project...
I have a mounted set of invo's that I use if traveling any distance, etc..

Opinions?
I would like opinions here. For both track and street use, will the 305/35/18 Toyo R888 out perform the Mickey Thompson ET street II?
Both being 305/35/18. Car being A A4 with 750rwhp for example.

I personally am leaning towards the MT. If the R888 hooked as good I would buy those - since also being a autoX tire it would handle better on street (I would think..). Still looking for opinions...
Oh btw - discount tire has a $100 rebate going on for any tires purchase over $400 (on fleabay). I just bought another set of invo's for the front..

Width isn't going to be your issue. It's the 35 series that will limit you. It's basically a rubberband around a rim with no give. Avoid Nitto anything and everything. I have their ****** 555Rs for street use that I accidentally ordered for my stock 18s. They couldn't hook on a Fiat muchless a stock C5Z.

Don't forget the Toyo Proxes TQs. They come in a 315/35/18 that I have mounted on a set of 18x10.5, they fit very well w/o tubbing and hook very well. They would be somewhat similar to the NT05r tires I think. The TQs are drag radials.

I have heard the 555r are junk. Previous owner had 305/45/18 NT05R's and it hooked well with 517rwhp. But looked funny due to tall tire...

Look man if your looking for a tire for the street than a 15" anything isn't necessary.
People around these forums make the assumption that everyone takes their high powered corvette to a drag strip. This is simply not the case. You will definitely be ok with a 35 series R compound tire. It will hook in most street driving scenarios even with power considerably greater than yours. If you are trying to get your best 60 foot time at each stop light then yes a 35 series 18" R compound tire won't be the best for you.

Under 800 whp you can make due with a "street" R compound (NT05R, R888, Toyo TQ). After that your only option is 17's or smaller with MT/Hoosier/M&H
When I was at 816 whp, going from 315-35-18 Toyo TQ to 295-45-17 MT ET Street Radial was the difference between spinning in 3rd and dead hooking 2nd.
Being able to punch it in 2nd adds a ton to the fun factor when making big power.

What about treadwear? Does anyone have first hand experience with using some of these tires and how they compare with each other as far as treadwear vs performance? I currently have the Toyo TQ for street use. When it comes time to replace I'm debating if I should stick with these tires or try something else.

MT ET Street II's work fine for my level... 560/530... however, I am adding a 150 shot real soon... Just ordered 2 new MT ET Streets in a 345/35/18 for my 18x11.5 wheels...

Really curious to hear from someone that has run the Toyo tq and mickeys or NT05? Great thread going here. Spending $$$$ on power upgrades does not mean anything if you cant get it to the ground..

TQ's to Mickeys
I have been using the Toyo TQ 315/35/18 for the past year, and this week went to the 305/35/18 Mickey Thompson ET Street II. I have not dropped the car off the jack stands yet, but will post my thoughts this weekend. Testing will be in the 750rwhp range before strapping it down to the dyno and tuning it a little higher.

Drifting
It's always hard to say if the older tires are more than a year or two old some of the gains are just having a new tire. My TQ handle well when pumped up around 30psi. I'm going to need more in the future though. I'd kill for a 18" tire slightly under 28" that will fit under stock fenders.

I have not run the NT05R but I have run the 555RII. I do not believe that the NT05R will out hook Toyo TQ, mainly because Nitto and Toyo are the same company and use the same rubber compound on all their competition tires. The advantage the TQ has over the R888 is tread pattern and softer sidewall (and more of it).
