car is in awesome shape previous owner was a fanatic on care

Redundancy.
The originals have only 1 on one side only. Theoretically, the pressure should be the same on each leg, and the one gate should flow enough to limit boost.
On my stage 2 build, I am adding an electronic boost controller with a second wastegate set to high limit for safety in case the solenoid fails or the gate sticks.

OK sorry to revive an old thread.

I've got an 03 c5 z06 and only one wastegate...

Don't I need a gate on each side to stop them from over spooling?

Not necessarily. A quality gate set right should work. SHOULD being the operative word. To my mind the second is a fail safe.
