Damn that sux man...

I've been hearing about a lot of lifters failing lately... Both the DOD lifters and the LS7s.. Sux a $5 part can take out an engine...

Hopefully you can just clean it all up, Polish the crank and slap new bearings/oil pump in it.. Time for a cam upgrade since yours is likely chewed up.. Get you a turbo specific grind now..

May as well make lemonade out of this lemon.

Hate reading stuff like this. Glad you caught it though before anything seized or broke. That will help keep the repair bill MUCH less then it could have been.

I wouldn't jump right into rebuild mode. A stuck, destroyed lifter in my brand new 416 is what took my car down and gave me time to think of going this new direction.

Get both heads off and inspect. Pull oil pan for piece of mind. In my case the lifter stuck in the bottom of the bore, cam whacked the axle and roller off of it. Cam was trashed, lifter trashed, metal in the pan. New cam and lifters is all I needed. I just ran an old lifter through the bore by hand over and over until I felt resistance was minimal enough.

Treat it like a junkyard 5.3L before you sink more coin into it. Worst thing happens is you waste some time and head gaskets imo.

It's always disappointing to hear news like this, but I know you will figure it out and move forward. You made short work of the install and it looks like the swap turned out to be everything you wanted minus this issue. Keep moving forward and don't get in a rush.

What were the indications that you were having issues? Did you find the metal when you did an oil change? What does the oil filter look like?

I've always had a nosiy lifter in the car. I was doing an oil change since it was beat on so much on dyno, found a little bit of metal in the oil. I cut filter open and it has very fine dust.

I also just did a partial comp test even tho motor is cold. 6 and 8 are 148-150 and 4 is 120.

You are going to see if there was a problem with the heads off. 3,5,7 are the ones to pop first on a setup like yours(ask me how know). If #7 is 140-150 I'd proceed to pull the heads.

Maybe consider going to tie bar lifters (morel or comp)
I have numerous friends that had same problem with ls7 lifters.
I know it must suck, but you have a nice setup !!

Yea I still haven't decided what I'm going to go with but it's definitely not the ls7's.

Hope to have the motor out in the next couple of weeks, I'm waiting on a lift I bought to get shipped, once I have that it should make it much easier. I have both heads off, turbod/manifolds etc, basiclly just need to disconnect the abs module and steering linkage and I'll be dropping the front cradle fully and pulling the short block, shouldn't be to bad.
