Default testing a new setup, TTix+NX

I wanted to try some nitrous for some high speed runs and see how it helps launching on a prepped track. I got some runs on the spray this weekend and learned some things.

1) I don't have near enough tire to hook off the line. 26" ET street bias ain't gonna do it.
2) When I did hook, the converter did not like. I had to go into 4th at 1000ft.
6800rpm on boost = 137mph
6800rpm on boost+spray= 118mph
3) I can go wot into OD and pulllll. That was cool.
4) Ceramic brake pads suck at stopping from over 150mph lol

I recently rebuilt my trans and loosened up the converter, hoping for some better launches. With this converter it went 9.9 on 12psi and seemed promising. But on 20psi it only went 9.7. Then on kill 23psi and 75 shot it still went 9.7. Hmm, I've got some work to do. Here's some videos.

first nitrous pass

racing a liter bike, spraying 3rd and 4th

Here's what the nitrous kit looks like. It's an NX 78mm plate, comes with jets up to 350hp. 75hp was all I could handle!

Glad to see the 3-4 shift is holding up!

Looks pretty hairy off the line. How was the pucker factor?

For sure, it definitely scared me lol. Hit alot harder than I expected. Pretty much instantly spools the turbos.

That converter is WAY loose...even on turbo only.. You could try a 28" tire to give you some more room but it will make the converter even looser.. Wasting a bunch of power..

I see 150 mph at 6850 rpms...this is on a 28" tho..

Could you lock the converter in 3rd?

At least you know it will hold a 4th gear wot shift.. That's pretty cool.. I'm scared to try it..lol

No, it's time to tweak the converter again.

with the new found low end torq a tighter convertor should do the trick!!

6800rpm on boost = 137mph
6800rpm on boost+spray= 118mph

what happened to make the MPH so much lower on spray??? traction issues, convertor overheated and slipped??

It's definitely blowing thru the converter. I started with a precision 3200 and have had it adjusted 3-4 times. Looks like i need to go back.

HAHAHA. I remember the first time I sprayed through the shift into 4th in my T/A, I was nervous as could be. It had a level 4 or 5 Finish Line trans in it. That trans took a beating the next couple years, always spraying through the shifts.

Video was cool. As far as brake pads change your front to this.

Carbotech™ AX6™

The AX6™ is specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range of 50°F to 1000°F + (10°C to 537°C+). The advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial bite, high coefficient of friction at lower temperatures along with very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. Many drivers use the AX6™ for street driving as well, even though Carbotech™ doesn't recommend street driving with AX6™ due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. AX6™ is NOT recommended as a race compound in most applications.

Nothing new to report. The converter needs adjustment before it will run a number. So I'm just enjoying it on low boost and deal with it over winter.

Yeah funny you remember that Yellow03Z06, from back around 2005. The juice is pretty awesome, especially with turbos it spools em right up!

Why not just force the converter to lock after the 2-3 shift and hit the spray...?

Atleast until you have time to swap converters again.. Such a pita.. I've had my converter out 3 times and still not sure if its right.... Tightened it each time.

I'll check those out, thanks. Yes I tried lockup and the converter won't stay locked. It's a bummer this converter didn't workout, but now I know what too loose gets me.

Hey Chris,

have you thought of a progressive hit (even with the baby whiff) to get better traction?

love to see a 50 shot ramp up to a 100 shot and then taper off after 5 psi

I might try to do this if I can ever get my $$ together to get the haltech S2000 and the engine freshened up

really debating a little 4.8 iron block bored out a bit to LS6 stock size (or maybe smaller)

need some help deciding on if I should use a forged 4.0 stroke crank though, I have one but the 4.8 stock crank has some appeal also!

love to try, nitrous to spool it, and direct injection meth up top to cool it, and also have the nitrous sprayed on the intercooler

expensive, but fun!! and the haltech could control all of this based on the tune setup so when on kill it would launch harder

For sure, a controller is a great idea. I plan to get one as a window switch. NX makes a max4 that's really trick and does progressive. There's a member here who can get great deals on the NX stuff. PM if interested.
