Mishaps suck, but keep your head up and let it eat tomorrow

Hey guys the car ran 195.7 MPH this morning. The 100% meth was not cooling the IATs. We were going to lean it out some more and make some laps but strong headwinds picked up so we loaded up. There's more in it with some additional tuning. A 100 shot would guarantee 200.

Glad you and the car made it in once piece. Have you experienced such high IAT's before this event?

195 is nothing to scoff at by the way

Outta curiousity how much boost and timing were you seeing in 5th under full load crossing the mile?

I've never run the Mile before, but the IATs climbed rapidly in a half-mile event I did using a single nozzle 50/50 setup. I switched to a dual nozzle setup for the Mile and tried both 50/50 and 100% meth. Nothing kept the IATs down. It actually ran a little cooler on 50/50.

203 kPa (15 psi) at 6,600 rpm in 5th gear on 28" tall tires. 12.5 degrees timing at the stripe. Sunoco 260 GT 100 octane in the tank and 100% meth. Lots more in it if the IATs can be kept in check. It would have taken more timing even with the high IATs but I didn't want to risk it and the head winds picked up anyway.

What kind of IAT's were you seeing at the stripe?

199 degrees F on 50/50 and 210-212 on 100% meth. Starting line IATs were 100-105.

That's really suprising. Whose dual nozzle alky kit do you run?

Good runs none the less! How did the car feel at those speeds?

Snow Performance Stage 3 with dual 625ml nozzles at max pump pressure. I set the controller to start spraying at 3psi going to 100% flow at 10 psi. Boost Juice for 50/50 and VP M1 for the 100% meth runs. It used about a quart of meth per run. Judging by the AFRs and the need to pull fuel out of the tune it was flowing plenty of meth. I wasn't willing to get real aggressive with fueling because I had no tuning fail safe with the high IATs. I'm going to scrutinize the meth system but it was definitely flowing.

The track was pretty bumpy. The last half mile felt more like being up on plane in a boat. You get used to it after a run or 2.

I would like to do the event someday. I need to add some safety equipment first though. And I am sure its not just about making a bunch of power. Do you have a lot of handling and suspension type stuff done to the car? I can only imagine how sketchy it feels doing 190+ and bouncing all around.

What was your 1/4 and 1/2 mile MPH/IAT? May tell you where you passed your meth kit efficiency area? I know that my car stayed at ambient or actually a little under at TI, granted its not a full mile but makes me wonder how I would do.

It ran 160.4 MPH in the half mile.

Here were the IAT's:

Starting Line: 100 F
Top of 1st Gear: 124 F
Top of 2nd Gear: 153 F
Top of 3rd Gear: 169 F
Top of 4th Gear: 189 F
Temps dropped to the 160's in 5th gear around 5,200 rpm but then steadily crept up to 219 F at the top of 5th Gear

I was in the 160-170 degree range at the half mile.

My car has a fairly stock suspension with aggressive alignment settings (lots of caster/camber and some toe out). It likely would have been more stable with a more straight line-oriented alignment. It didn't feel bad once after I got used to it.

Have you thought of running a cryo system to cool the IAT's or adding a meth nozzle to the blower inlet? I'm assuming you're running SD so no worries about meth skewing the maf?

Man it got crazy hot! lol

I wouldn't have any timing left in my tune after 2nd gear. I think I have timing being pulled at 135-140* and up, for my meth failsafe.

Yes, I start pulling timing around 120-140 as well. It was pulling 10 degrees at the end of the run due to IATs. I made the tune a little more aggressive through the weekend because I knew I had the octane but I didn't want to go too far.
