More build progress lately

Got the crank back from being turned just to be safe

Sizing the rings

Pistons and rods assembled

All clearances checked and ready to be installed

Cam in, lifters in, head studs on

Putting the ported 243's on with the ls9 gaskets

Heads on! ( cam sprocket just on so cam cant slide back)

C5R timing chain, Melling oil pump, oil pan, and a few other things coming soon!

Thanks man. Yes we had a ring grinder and file. My tuner has done about 20 LS motors it was around 21 and 23 for my set up I believe. Yes we checked main clearance and rod clearance.

It's hard to say man. We did a cam only and now it's a heads/cam/fast on my friends car WAY back in 2007 I'd guess. It's around 440 whp now and used a LS2 chain with a XER grind cam 228 232. He probably has 20k on the chain with no guide and he is using an ASP pulley. Lots of road racing miles on his car also so who the frick knows. He even had a Comp dual spring fail on the heads and is on a 2nd set of springs. Dumb luck I guess.

On my last car which was just an na build, saw a ton of high rpm runs on the autobahn. I used the ls2 chain and thought it was way beefier than the ls1 chain. I just can't risk it on this motor, worth the few extra dollars for some insurance. Getting the dampener as well.

I wouldn't either as I also run a C5R chain with guide and ATI pulley. My friend is just cheap and we did it so long ago, but it does show them lasting. I guess the QC is not there to catch the bad ones quite as well

I honestly believe it was a freak thing. There are tons of Ls2,Ls3,Ls7, etc cars running the same chain with zero issues. Mine lasted 15k miles with tons of abuse. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link... it was literal here.

Yes I was kicking myself for only upgrading my ls1/ls6 to the ls2+ style after it broke and not spending the extra $100 for the C5R but again it was dumb luck and secured my decision to go forged this winter. Glad it happened fist day of winter 14 and not first day of spring 15!

Back to shop last night for more progress

Lifters, pushrods, Melling oil pump, and C5R chain lined up and installed red loctite on the cam bolts as well ( been there done that with them backing out ) Also installed valley cover, knock sensors and new oil pressure sensor.

Next it was time to flip it over to install new pickuptube and oil pan etc. Lube it all up with pepsi for best results 2 other LS motors being built behind it.

Oil Pan, front cover, and valve covers with new gaskets installed

Back soon to finish a few things up and take off stand to work on the rear cover etc anyone wanna go ahead and hold it up for me so i can work on it?

My luck is always dumb luck and freak accidents so I tend to pay for small insurances Lol.
