OK so we figured out the issue. Luckily we have a bunch of tanks from cars we back halved etc so we tested this on several of them and found that one of them does not fit well.
I do not know the year of each tank though, they were just in our warehouse, but on that tank all we had to do was slightly bend one of the lines by hand and it slipped right in.
I think someone else mentioned this earlier, but I'll post up some pics when I get a chance.

Doug, has the design of the ring been changed? The one I have only has one outlet port vs. the one in this thread with a second internally threaded port.

Everything else is the same, we just added that for a return since someone asked for one. I always used the factory return but it was no big deal to add it so..

Let's see a picture of the car attached to this bulkhead fitting.

I bent the line Doug suggested and the fuel ring is in, thanks Doug

The pump itself was mounted a little more forward than I think was intended as I wanted to keep my Z06 brake ducts. Some -6 PTFE line and fitting should be here by Wednesday.

I appreciate the offer Big Jt, but the ring worked out.

Hey guys having the same problem with mine. Luckily I believe I have the sme tank as you. Did you bend the lines down and away or to the right. I'm saying this assuming you had the fittings against your stomach and the canister pointing away from your body.
I don't want to pull this thing out 10 times.

Thanks guys

Went to the right a little with both of them. It's in. Fingers crossed it doesn't leak.

Thanks 4D, I appreciate it. We ended up getting it in but we are a long way from testing for leaks. Engine is still on the stand.
The ptfe -6 line is too short if I want to keep my brake vent so I think I'm going to have to source that as well

Thanks! I'll have to take a look and see where it's hitting. How did you bend it? Just pushed it forward in the direction of the arrow or did you have to go to one side or the other?

Using this pic I am assuming kind of straight down?

I pushed in the direction of the arrow and down, basically the "hump" in the line needs to move forward a bit. I held where the spring is and just pushed, it was a PITA.
