When to upgrade your drive shaft?
i just upgraded the rubber bushing to the 14mm ones last year and made about 650 wheel on a procharger. the new setup will be anywhere from 800-1000 but im mostly doing half mile racing. so hard launches wont be a very likely thing

When I replaced my bushings and bearings in the 03 Z06 toque tube, I found scrape marks on part of the rubber donut that is on the drive shaft. The drive shaft did not show any other signs of flexing. I was at 800+ hp and tq at the wheels at the time. My car is a manual trans and only street use. I upgraded my drive shaft.

I just rebuilt my drive shaft with new OEM couplers and bearings. There was a slight rub mark on the rubber rubber ring indicating the shaft hit the tube at some point, but it wasn't bad. There was a very minor amount of runout on the bearings, no clue if it was an acceptable amount. The couplers looked literally brand new. The rubber was still soft, no signs of compression or twisting, no cracking at all.
I already had the rebuild kit, so i did it anyway while it was out. The car has 62k miles and has been boosted for about 20k of them. First at 572rwhp, then 638rwhp. Lots of autocross, some road racing, a little drag racing, and half mile events. Given the excellent condition of the driveshaft, I just rebuilt the original and added the ECS Torque Tamer brace when I put it all back together.

My goal is 800 whp, and 800whtq. I was told by RPM I should be just fine on the stock shaft with upgraded poly couplers.

I just changed my couplers. They were toast. Fell apart in my hands with only the nylon strings holding some parts together. Bearings felt good still. Will probably upgrade the shaft when I go to a Ysi. Im at 700rwhp with V2si

97'-00' 10mm bolt vs 01'-04' 12mm bolt coupler. The Driveshaft was made larger also for this change. The 12mm bolt couplers are larger also, but still limited in the higher hp or drag raced cars.

I have a 97, previous set up was a 427 forged stroker with 725 RWHP and originally built in 2002 by the original owner so I knew it could hold the power but for wasn't sure for how much longer.
I just re-did the tranny in 2012, 2013 LS3 engine, this summer put in an A&A kit, new clutch, built rear end and RPM axle kit. I knew the TT couplers had not been messed with since based on service records. As part of this project, I decided on better safe than sorry- upgraded shaft while replacing couplers and TT bearings with a PST shaft -1000 HP rating for good measure in case I take the power further later on it wont be an issue with any of these items.
