Default Oil for FI Motors on E85

What up everyone? Just wanted to bring something up that came up lately and I havent found too much info on. As some of you may know, diesel motor oils have been popular with hotrodders for their elevated zinc levels for camshaft protection and their low price. Now Im hearing that they are also preferred for motors burning E85 due to their higher tbn levels and resistance to fuel dilution.

I have been using Redline 10w40 and now their 15w40 is what has been recommended. Redline has a good amount of moly and zddp so I know the protection is there but maybe the diesel oil can allow for higher change intervals. Opinions?

2002 coupe, Vortech V2si LS3 on e85, no emissions or cats.

I run shell T6 personally, I wouldn't push the intervals though, E85 breaks down the oil faster

I was thinking 3000-5000mi. I also used Rotella T6 before but my engine builder recommended a 15w40 after we rebuilt the motor and went forged. Ive been using Redline 10w40 since its actually on the thicker side.

be careful assuming oil formulations haven't changed across the board. I used to like Chevron Delo 400 but discovered they pulled the higher level of additives out of it too, just like the rest, to meet standards. From now on, If it has API ratings on it, I consider it possibly altered.

There are new standards from GM on Dexos that are going to force them to make it even better than before. An interesting read at the very least.

Been running the line of Rotella T6 5w40 and regular 15w40 on corn some of the change intervals will be determined by your particular setup. Most oil manufactures like to keep the oil temps in the 200's to help burn off the residual E85 contaminates faster to maintain the oils integrity etc... I have a hard time with the oil temps in the 200's although I shouldn't as its fine, but hard to break the normal 175-185 I like usually in my motors. I also run a vacuum pump which seems to help evacuate some of the excessive blow by under boost, but no way of telling how much. I've just compared others cars that don't run a vacuum pump and run E85. Only know of like 2 others near me that I've been able to compare so no real significant data on it either. But I'm guessing I'm in the 1500-2000 mile range for an oil change depending on usage.

Great point, I know several people who've spun bearings by going too long between oil changes, E85 breaks it down faster. T6 is cheap, just change the oil, I go about 2000 miles between changes.

I also notice the oil breaking down faster. I'd do a blackstone sample on it possibly. I've got 1200+ miles on my last change of t6 running e85 and the oil smells slightly corny haha. I also notice less oil consumption with all the hard running/dyno time so I'm sure the oil is being diluted by fuel more than usual on gas.
