Default Tire size?

I have a 97 C5, A & A V3 Si kit, 549 Rwhp & 476 Rwtq, Performabuilt level 3 A4 trans, just put on Mickey Thompson ET Street R radial p305/45r18 in rear and stock in front. This is what my shop recommended, needless to say the rears are rubbing just idleing down the street.
What are u guys running on ur front and rear? I want to go as big and wide as possible without modifying the body. I went to Kil-Kare track on my street tires last thursday first time ever, 13.4 but could never really hook up. So I got these as recommended and unless I tub it they are going to tear the body apart, any help is appreciated. I want to go as big and wide as possible without modifying the body.
Thanks,
Rich

Thats a huge tire. The size might even be hurting your speed rubbing or not. I run a 305/35/19 NT05R but you will hook better on a 18 or 17 and even better on a 15 or 16.

Keeping on your 18's I think you would be better off with a P305/35R18 ET Street Radial II. Maybe a P315/40R18 Nitto NT05R but I think the ET street will be your best bet.

Looks like MT has a 305/40/18 coming out also so that's 27.6". I will be running those next I think.

That tire's way too tall for your setup. Guaranteed you're hurting your track performance with that tall tire, at your level. I would recommend a good 26" tire for the best performance. Any decent drag radial should hook for you. I would stay at 295 or lower because the tires wider than the rim get rolled up on the edges and cause problems. You can't lower pressure to compensate because it causes other problems.

Those tires are 28.8" tall, I can't believe the shop recommended them for a stock body C5. At your power level, I had good success with the MT 305/35/18s.

I'm really glad they are releasing this tire and it will be my next purchase also. Perfect size for C5's with stock fenders and decent power.

Well I got them on, put a spacer on and no more rub, just had it up to about 100 on the highway. Did hear just a slight rub when I hit a bump on the hwy at 90mph. I was up to 7.4 psi boost and didn't really feel all that much acceleration. I think the tire might be too much for the 3.42 gearing.
I have a set of MT ET ii 305/35/r18 on the way. Going to mount them as well on my other wheels. I will run one set one week, the other the next, the fastest tire will be the winner, the other will be on here for sale, lol.

You guys say that is too much tire for his 343 gearing, what about a 390's and a standard? I am making around 694 to the wheels with a similar setup. I was looking at the Mt et 11 but in a 17. Sorry for hijacking your thread, just figured we both can use more info.

Its all good, I forgot all about this thread. I never got to the track before the season ended. I ended up adding the 8 rib conversion with secondary drive for the SC. Then I added an Alky Control Meth kit to the mix. Now I'm making 580 RWHP and 520 FT LBS consistently with no belt slip like I was having. By the time everything was done it was too late to get to the track.
