Thanks inspector. Lots of work ahead. I'm glad it's a labor of love.

Thanks. I didn't want to try to shape a giant piece of steel so....

HDADD - High definition Attention Deficit Disorder. Brett doesn't say much but when he does, it's perfectly clear!

Polished oil pan? Maybe you should rub some Astroglide on it too. Very slippery stuff. As a side effect, your motor will breathe harder and faster.

Patch panel cut and fitted.

welded and ground down.

A buddy of mine and fellow forum member did a stress analysis on the frame work. Says it's good ASSUMING my welds are good.

Primed and ready to paint

Painted

I welded tabs on the tank, installed nutserts into the frame so I could bolt it in properly.

Nothing like taking a nice pair of Precision turbos and cutting into them.
That's where trust comes into play. Jon is really clever and thoughtful with metals. His engineering brain has to get fully around something before pulling the trigger and I'm impressed with the results to say the least.

Nickel Butter! (you know you were saying it when posting this ) Thanks, Bret! I think we all had a little pucker factor when I took a hole saw to $4.5k worth of turbos . I did do mine first though, so no surprises on yours.

The more you look, the more opinions you'll find on process and filler to use etc. For these, I chose a 2 stage process. Heated up to ~300F, put down a butter layer of Ni-99 nickel over the cast, then 309L to attach the stainless sch10 elbow to it. The Ni-99 is to minimize carbide formation from the stainless to iron. Then wrapped them up well in several turbo blankets and slow cooled.

It's for wastegate plumbing; releasing exhaust pressure to control boost. The manifolds and size of turbos/downpipes don't allow for decent wastegate position pre-turbo without cutting up the car. Even then, there would be service access issues and who wants something hard to work on. Wastegates are most efficient when plumbed inline with flow and at a location of high pressure. It should function very well in this location.
