Default '01 C5Z Build/Rebuilt Thread

So, June of this year (15) I bought a built C5. Thought I was getting a fair deal on a badass setup, well that didnt work out so well. By November we where pulling the built motor out due to numerous failures. Thats what I get for buying a nitrous car I suppose. The car had the following setup when I bought it.

C5R 447 C.I. block
WCCH LS7 heads
14.5 to 1 compession tuned on E85
Compstar crank and h beams
Wiesco forged pistons
LS7 lifters, BTR Springs
FAST 102 MM Intake
NW LS7 102m TB
Nitrous outlet plate kit w/ 200shot
2 15lb bottle setup w heaters
NOS Launcher prohressive controller
Walbro 485 E85 pump and Bosch 044 external pump
Aeromotive nitrous fuel pump
MSD Boost a pump
1000CC FIC injectors
2 in ARH long tubes w X Pipe
PFADT Coil overs
C6Z endlinks
MN6 transmission
300M output shafts
Ron Davis oil cooler and Radiator

The car now has a Thompson Motorsports Forged Iron block 370 C.I. motor in it. Essentially I got their, Boostzilla or Boostking, whatever it was called setup. I decided to not rebuild the old setup and get away from the high compression big motor. I kept all the extras from the old setup. So the new motor will be boosted w a single rear mount as well as keeping the 200 shot. We put the car on the dyno to get some baseline numbers and it put down 456 all motor. Im looking for 900 wheel this spring with the turbo.

Ill get some pics up tomorrow. And posting pics as I get parts this winter and get the turbo project going in February.

16" CCWs with 26x11.5 ET Street bias plies if it's still a MN12 Trans. You'll need bias ply front runners tho.

Could also go with a 17" rear and run 295/4517 MTs or 325 MHs. The MN12 trans gearing sux with 28s tho.

What is the combo on the TMS motor? 456 rwhp is pretty good for a low compression, boost motor...

Sux about the 445".. I bet it was nasty on the street. Looks like it got something in that cylinder, as well as detonated the upper ring land/crown.

You likely have much better drivability with the 370/turbo... However they can/will melt just as easy if stuff isn't 100% right... (And even when it is right)..

Good luck on the new build.

FYI, if you're gonna be drag racing it on the track, I'd try to make the 26"s work. On the street, the 28s will be better.

Lots of people have made it into the 9s on 26"s.

Yea we thought 458 was pretty good for the motor as well. Ill get the build sheet w specifics later and send it to you. When you say 26s and 28s what exactly do you mean?

Tire diameter. 26"...(26x11.5x16 or 17s), or 28" ...(aka. 295/45/17s, 325/40/17s, or 295/50/16s)

It makes a huge effect in track performance with a stick tranny... I will say that turbos will tolerate and sometimes prefer taller gearing that the taller tires will give you... You'll probably be ok on 28s.

Blower cars with stick trannies (especially the MN12) are a lot harder to get them to ET on taller tires. Blower cars need RPMS to make power, taller tires and tranny gearing all plays a role in this.... All in the setup though.

For the street, you definitely will want the 28s so you'll have more sidewall, which helps with traction, a must on the street.

Sub'd for your turbo build progress.

Sorry to hear about the previous engine, but the car should be a blast now.

Also in for some rear mount pictures and how you go about it.

Tire sizes confuse me to no end. I have 315/35s on my 17" ccws now. Is there a place that explains the differeces?

Can't wait to put these on. The headlights should be here in a week or so. Going to get this winter parts list going!

So Ive decided to scrap the rear mount turbo setup. After looking around the forum some more I saw a lot of people dealing with Brett BlownBLueZ06 I think his name is on here. HEs in the process of building me a legit fuel system right now and next week Ill be ordering a YSI 8 Rib, billet upgraded pro charger set up. I think it will be my best option for going fast. Keeping my 200 shot as well, lets see what happens!
