Default Are Toyo R888 that noisy ??? 700whp street car stock c5z wheels tire choice...

Well spring is coming.
I will be in the low 700whp range after my meth setup tune so i need rubber. My BFG KDW2 are bad when cold and are bad when hot so not even doing anything good when i was N/A.

Ive been doing a lot of reading in the archive and a good choice for a street car that do a lot of corner carving spririted driving , that wont normally see rain and running stock alcoa c5z wheels would be some R888 (275/40/17 and 305/35/18).

I also read that those tire are noisy. Some even wrote that they sound like bad wheel bearings

-Is it true ?
-Are they that noisy ?
-Other suggestion for me ? (dont wanna soft sidewall since corner carving is my thing )

Thanks
Eric

I have these same tire for the back of my car. I run the 18 x 10.5 front and rear. I have not found them to be noisy. They have great traction for me but I have less rear wheel horse power than you do. If i were at your power level i would try to fit more tire under the back, because now that i have traction i would never go back to regular tires again.
A side note, I have been caught in the rain a few times and if you drive sensibly they handle the rain just fine. They do tend to have less grip in the cold weather also, but the warm weather grip is amazing for a tire that will still give you good cornering ability.
I will get another set of these after this set wears out.

I also have R888 on C5 Z06 wheels. They are no more noisy than any other tire; my exhaust is far noisier!
I think you will be very very satisfied with R888.

I beg to differ. They have a noticeable loud hum, that sounds like a noisy rear end. The Hoosiers, Rival S, and RE-71R I have tried are all quieter, and for what it's worth, they all are stickier than the R888.

I had them at one point and I agree, they were not noisy at all on my car... part of that could be due to the exhaust so unless your car is stock quiet then it probably wouldn't be an issue... they were certainly better than any street tire but they would still spin 1st gear in the low 400's and dead hook 2nd, I knew once I boosted the car it would probably be worse so I sold them and went with nitto nt05r's... those are a much better tire for me personally but if you want to take hard corners you probably should stick to something like the r888

Hoosiers are quieter, thanks to softer compound. When im on low boost (650's rwhp) and the Toyos are cold I have no traction. Once they heat up its a decent all around tire. The noise level in my car is comparable to a PS2, or MT drag radial. I cant even comment on a BFG KDW, as those crap tires almost killed me in a rainstorm driving through Tennessee.

I have them, yes, they are on the noisy side (while just cruising). I am at 709 WHP, but am running the stock TI exhaust (AR 1 7/8" headers with catted X pipe), so that probably makes the sound more noticeable. When making a pull, they are the last thing you will hear.

Having said that, they are a great tire! Hook surprisingly well at my power level, and are a great cornering tire. They are actually very predictable in the rain, as well.

I would say they are a bit noisier but not by much. I am making 660s on a mustang dyno and blow them away top of third, second gear I don't even bother. Added double adj. shocks and will see if that helps.

I've noticed a people either say they hook great for them, or in my case, not well at all.

Any DR will make the rear end much more softer and i ll get less corner capabillity...

I think you should account for tire size also. I use a 335/30/18 R888 and that is the only all around street tire i trust, at the track is a different story though. Also keep in mind some might use a 275, 295, 315, or ?

R888 available size is 305/35/18 so i would run them in that size on my 10.5 wheels.

The main problem is that im canadian and my dollard suck bad right now.If the can dollard was equal to the us dollard(like 2 years ago) i would throw some wide fender and some 18x12 F14 with 335 tire. But right now its impossible everything cost me 30% or more

I feel your pain the exchange is horrible right now.

I ran 888's in those sizes and they get louder the more they wear. The rears sounds kinda like mudders and the fronts began to whine above 120. But they are awesome tires for grip and the sidewalls especially on the rears are super stiff which is what I like.

Well i guess i ll have to change my plan and go deep in my pockets($$$) and go wide fender...

Anyone got real world specs(offset) for the combo that im looking for :

Combo no 1:
-Front : Semi concave 18x9.5 using 275/35/18 that would clear BBK
-Rear : Deep concave 18x12 using 335/30/18 that would clear my rear brake duct(not even negociable) and that would sit flush to my 2 inch wide fender

Combo no 2:
-Front : Semi concave 18x9.5 using 275/35/18 that would clear BBK
-Rear :Super Deep concave 18x12 using 335/30/18 that would clear my rear brake duct(not even negociable) and that would sit flush to my 2 inch wide fender(slight poke could be tolerable because of super deep concave)

R888 on the c7 now with headers & stock rear exhaust cant hear the tires over that. You will like them hook up is good.

Would it be better running r888 front and rear (275/40 and 305/35)
or
r888 in the back and maybe a more standard tire in front(like michelin PSS)

???
