Huge oil consumption issues with new FI LS1 383 stroker

NEWS :
One of the tech from Total Seal Piston Rings said me :
"Hello
You should NEVER clip the expanders , That might be your whole problem ."
So... My mistake...
Yesterday, i friend of mine who his one of the best/the best builder in my area said me exaclty the same
Do you think i sould be able to just buy the 8x extrender from Wiseco (part of the full 3905GFX package) ?
Cause i'm in Europe, i send a mail to the European staff (as i read in the website), but probably it will be better to ask to the US staff... If someone can phone them from US, it will be great ;-)
Another friend of mine can find me a place to pull the engine in his garage shop in something like 3 weeks... Cannot wait ^^

Melting Slicks
I kinda said that already lol
You should definitely be able to buy just the oil rings, even in box sets they come bagged and part numbered separately from the other rings
Depending where in Europe, Dave Powell at Performance Unlimited in England is very helpful and a Total Seal dealer.
If you have the original packaging, you'll see the part number of what you need.

I asked to totalseal (the tech in US)... 9.25$ each oil ring ^^

ISIS SUCKS FAT CHOAD
ring tension is a huge player in an engines power losses. I degreed a cam in a Big Block Chevy and then an LS back to back and the difference between the two in just rotating the short block over by hand was astonishing.

Since i need to be able to drive 1600 miles round trip just for visit my familly, better to not having pu fill engine at each trip.
14 lbs is just a little more than stock tension

I had double/triple check everyting when build it
Cutting the extender is a fact
And, cause of that, it's like a "without tension" oïl rings
I'm just dial with Totalseal
They will send a 16lbs oil rings set that is 3.mm with a radial depth of .145 (hope it's good for my wiseco piston because i cannot check that)
Seem to be higher than the 12/14lbs i expected, but...
We (4 or 6 eyes lol) will triple check everyting when swap rings

Le Mans Master
Its not just about oil ring tension that affects consumption... Its really more about how true the cylinders are after the heads are torqued down. A really true cylinder with a good hone job can get by with low tension oil rings and not use oil excessively...
9 times out of 10, the piston is fitting too loose in the bore, therefore rocks in the during the strokes and flutters the rings, thus guzzling oil.
I just went through this same scenario on my 402. We ended up ordering a .006" over piston and honing the cylinder to get us .004" skirt to wall clearance. Now its at 404" (basically .010" over) and although real early to tell, but it seems to be pretty tight on oil use. This is with the Total Seal ring pack and 14lb oil ring.
I put 150 miles on it yesterday, mostly highway, and the dipstick level is exactly where it was when I left. Encouraging...but we'll see how it looks after 1500 miles or so on this oil change. The engine has right at 1100 miles now.

Good news...
The engine is close since one week, with the new spring from TotalSeal
Have change the clutch, so, i had to brake in
After 500 miles... ZERO oïl consumtion / zero smoke ;-)
Just a new/persistent problem (in fact, since i have going from 346 to 383ci and add a few psi on the sc)
The engine is "forcing" each time i want go +5000/5500 rpm... (it's possible... but i feel the engine is forcing, look like someone put a 2tons trailler)
Look like i dont have enough fuel... (but with the new BAP ans the 1000cc, i have... and i was able to hit +7400rpm without the BAP in the last config)
FYI, the difference last/new config are :
......... LAST............... NEW
pulley 3.4.................. 3.125
ci...... 346................. 383
ratio.. 10.1:1............. 11.1:1
BAP... no BAP............. BAP 20V
So, it'run like a charm (and really powerfull) to 5000/5500 and like crap at upper rpm
all engine/spark/bap/fuel are new and controled
Perhaps i hit some MAF limitation with the new config ? or some VE raping limitation (i'm again with the stock 1bar MAP sensor) ?...

i'm the tuner
i have change :
- the "cylinder volume" (because from 346 to 383)
- the Power Enrich (because from 3.4/7.5 to 3.125/8 pulley combo) and check it with wideband to have 12 afr
just for a WOT, i was thinking it should be good

Good
I have completly review the tune (so, not from my best ET time tune, but from zero)
And POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWer
(during my last test, the car jump 2 times lol need prep track)
Haven't feel any forcing, and i have log +6700rpm runs, have see lean wot, and i had pull 5 degrees for safe, so, the engine car do better Wow
But (yes, always a "but"), the engine idle (and die) like a crap
SO, i have just to tune this (cause big cam i think), it's probably just an 1 or 2 hours jog, and not forget to put the new PE table (i have just calc it), and try to add some degrees
It's 4.30 AM, i'm happy, and go to bed ;-)
