Here is a podcast with the owner of ATI and he talks about dampeners in it. Good info. For one I didn't realize the dampener for truck motors or vettes was internal different and setup for different rpm.

stuff looks great, I'll be hopefully getting enough $ to build my alum block and I look forward to trying this setup on my next build thanks for taking the time to build such a nice setup.

I'll be running under 7k rpms and hopefully getting a tt to live at 1k

[QUOTE=BLOWNBLUEZ06@RKTPerformance;159194 8872]I don't care for double rollers, regardless of the manufacturer. I've seen the LS2 chain fail more than once. F/I regular, PeetyZ actually called me from the side of the road once to help diagnose his issue remotely and it was his LS2 chain with less than 20kmi on it. I actually started a big write-up on timing chains. I'm going to be offering a chain not seen before that is designed to withstand far more than any of the chains currently on the market. I'll start the sale as soon as I have time to manage it.

The picture of the three chains: Top one is a C5R, middle one is C7R and the bottom is mine.
Tumble polished billet steel gears, black oxide coated.

OP, let me know if you're interested in one.

Agree with all you said. I'm pushing 25 boost with zip issues in LSX.

Installed mine yesterday. My cam was 4' retarded with stock gears and C7R chain. Installed Bret's set straight up and it was only 2' retarded (new/tighter chain). Installed it 2' advanced and it was very close. Was nice to be able to adjust it without a double roller.

Got mine today. Looks much more beefcake in person. I'm really digging the oil holes in the chain bushings.

Any one known the c5r chain to fail? I'm not aware.

I like Brett's new chain but damn for me it would seem like stupid overkill on a 750-800 hp set up

Ignorance may be bliss however thus any more info is appreciated.

Default LS! timing chain

This thread kind of went astray from my original question.

MY question: Going to be doing a F/I install on a 58,000 mile C5. Will be Paxton 1500, max 10 PSI, stock bottom end, 6,200 RPM limit. Using 317 heads with Tooley .660 lift Platinum springs. Baby cam with intake - low 220's Exhaust - high 220's.

You F/I guys that have been through some engines - do I need to go to a double roller timing chain or will a good single be OK? Which ever way you lean, what is a good quality budget set brand?

POSSIBLY YOU MISSED THE BUDGET IN THE DISCRIPTION!?

Please could I get some additional opinions from those who have used and had good success with an affordable chain - single or double. Brand names please.

Thanks in advance.

That's my fault, I apologize. I've never been happy with any double rollers. While they may be double rows, all of the parts are much smaller and I've had no luck with them. I would prefer a more robust single row chain. The minimum chain I would go with is the C5R chain, but you may find it not budget friendly enough. I would hate to see anyone lose their motor over saving relatively little on their timing chain.

I'm using a Manley double roller on my build with no issues.

FWIW, i've used the rollmaster dual for about 60k miles and had zero issues. Swapped cam a little while back and inspected chain while 2-piece cover was off, and looked fine. They're more work to put in due to additional clearancing around a melling pump required to clear chain, but they've worked for me.

An myself on the other hand found pieces of my roll master on my oil drain plug after using the low miles set on my original engine build. Been c5r chain for some time now with a guide.
