Default Downpipe design with fender kits.....

About to redo the entire exhaust on my car. My buddy who is doing the fab is asking me where others put their 3"-3.5" dp route.

My current 2.5" setup is touching the tire when fully turning already. As far as i have seen, everyone puts it against the frame, nearly in the same spot.

Examples/Tips/ideas/suggestions?

I have 2.5" downpipes and mine seem to sit back more towards door and higher than those pics above. The only thing that did touch originally was the passenger down pipe to the bellhousing before I reworked it. Now I have clearance everywhere, but turbo are close to installed vent screens.

Yeah yours look angled a lot differently than mine. May be a lot of room we can work with if that is the case. Need to fit 3" pipes.

UPP's 6262 C5 kit uses 3" downpipes, iirc.

i thought they supply 2.5 but can upgrade to 3? Either way.. i figured more people would have 3" dp's... it seems that is not the case!

Hey thanks for the reply! Your setup looks like it would hit the tire more than mine already does. Do you have issues turning in parking lots as well?

Nope, only problem i had was the tire rubbing on the pipe that went over it, but that was rectified with a revision CK made.

Interesting. What size are your front wheels/tires?

I'll forward him your pics. We were basically going to remove my old down pipes, test 3" paths til he finds something that will work between the frame , oil pan and a fully locked wheel... TONS of space in the c5.... not. lol

Our original design was 2.5" DPs, but then it was revised to fit the 6182R's with 3" DPs. Majority of the kits out there are now 3" DP. It's a very tight fit, but it's doable.

CK, is there room to flip the turbo assembly around and run the exhaust out the bottom of the fender?

Same exact thing here. 9.5" wheel.

I'm going to chaulk it up to a badly fitted setup then if you guys say it can be done. My buddy will get it done then, no doubt there. May have to re-route an oil line or two but idc.

Thanks very much for the help fellas. Had no idea there were so many twin 3" dp c5 vettes out there to be honest, well done @ CK

Why not run open dumps out the side of the fender?

Yep, that's what I meant, out the side of the fender at the lower portion. Guess I should have been more specific. I think it would work out well. Basically swap the location of the compressor and turbine.
