How to identify C6 Z06 differential?
Looking at buying one but its not in the car. How can I tell if its a Z06 diff and Im not getting hosed? Any way to tell what gears are in it without build codes?

you can count the splines in the pinion, it should have 30... as far as I know the only gear available for the z06 is a 3.42

all of the c6 diff cases except for the zr1 look pretty similar, I'm not sure how to tell those apart just by looking at them

The covers are the same size on base c6.
The difference is very noticeable.
If you have to change the o-ring on a C6Z diff they are different sizes. Unlike on base c6 and c5 diffs which use the same size o-ring.

real good deal especially if the suspension stuff came with it, you could sell that off and make most of your money back and put that towards building the diff up

Im totally stoked you guys! I can run some slicks now. I wasnt even getting excited on the way over there in case it was a base model rear. This is karma for all the car parts Ive sold for dirt cheap on CL over the years, it finally paid off.

if you have a stock c5 trans those are 27 spline and as far as I know all the c6z/zr1/6spd grand sport have 30 spline pinions in the diff... so either you need a 30 spline 6060 trans or I believe rpm can respline the pinion to fit your 27 spline trans and you would need to find a way to bolt them together... c5's use 5 bolts and the c6z diff uses 8... maybe they have an adapter or you could use a tailshaft housing from a 6060, I really don't know the amswer to that

The 6060 uses larger bearings and races. So the 6060 tail is out of the equation (unless you modify one to accept the smaller race).
I have went from tr6060 to a c5 diff, but not the other way. Call Jeremy at RPM tomorrow and ask.
Your best bet would be to find tr6060. Make sure it's 30 spline.
Unless you plan on keeping the oil cooler in the back of the diff you will need to get a C5 rear cover.
The C5 exhaust needs to modified to clear the mounts on the diff. This involves removing approx. 3" of straight section from the X-Pipe and relocating it to the hump section.
Also going to need offset diff mounts to keep everything lined up properly.
As far as building it up. Add RPM's clutch pack and DSS out put shafts. That's all it needs.
