Default Water pump pulley sheared off again ecs supercharger

This is the second time in two weeks my water pump pulley sheared clean off the shaft. I replaced the pump last week with a Delco pump and today it sheared off again. All my pulley look good. Zero balancer wobble. Never had a problem until this year. Running ecs 1500 kit on a 6 speed transmission. I ordered a performance pump with a billet bolt on pulley and I hope this fixes the problem . Has anyone ran into this at all ? And this is the 6rib set up. I tightened the belt as per ecs instructions as well where the stock tensioner was at 80%max. I'm stumped.

Yes I have seen this problem, some tack weld the pulley, seems to be the older pumps, I think 2004 or c6 is the pump to buy.

Is it coming off the shaft or literally breaking the pulley itself?

I walked the pulley off twice, but blue loctite fixed it and then I went flip drive

I can't remember if they are secured by a bolt or not but I added one to keep the pulley on

If it's coming off the shaft then have it welded on

If it's breaking the pulley then that's a whole different issue. "Sheared off" makes me think it's breaking something.

The pulley on the waterpump itself is breaking just above the shaft that it is pressed onto.

Here is the waterpump that blew apart last week. This pump had been on since last year being supercharged. <br >

I wasn't paying attention to which pulley. PS is what I walked off.

Hope your new pump works

That is a rare to happen so fast to the same car, the pump you posted looks good though. One thing to check upon installation is that the mounting boss for the original tensioner, now our main bracket is the same height. I have seen them be off before.

When you have the old pump off, place it on a flat table along side the new pump for a quick verification of the two. That can save you a world of belt troubles down the line of they are off.

Will an LS2 pump fit ? much smaller bell so should be a lot stronger as far less leverage acting on it

The LS2 pump has the bolt boss .070 farther back then the C5 does, so be aware of that. It will throw off the belt alignment.

Default Water pump pulley

Did this pump fix your issue? I am currently on my fourth pump within 6 months. Keeps walking the pulley off the pump shaft. I looked at this pump but it looked like the hub was pressed on just like the stock one even though you can bolt the pulley on it looks like the hub can still break free from the shaft and walk off.

I've been running the Evans water pump forever with a 8 rib ecs kit, no issues.

This is an old a$$ thread, but I'll chime in. I had the bell rip off at the top just like the OP. It was on my very first drive home from picking my vette up from ECS. Chris had said he's only seen this happen two or three times before. Looks like OP was one of those 2 to 3.

I decided to go with a Meziere EWP.
