Unless your car truly is a 250mph car I would see no reason to choose such gearing.

Up to you to decide though. Put the info into a gear calc and see where your shifts will leave you and where you make power etc.
Only the trans gear ratios affect rpm drop during shifts. I do agree that a gear calculator will assist in selecting the correct overall gearing based on tire height, rear and trans ratios.

Surprisingly even with the tall gearing it's not as bad as I thought, but you would need to be shifting beyond 7k really unless the car is pulling very hard at 5k already

Just change the diff to a 2.73. You'll be fine.

Bump I think this thread is interesting.

What do you think about doing 3.15's in a 600rwhp 02z? Entirely a street driven car.

Blower or turbo?

Turbo(s) would like it more.

Where are you guys sourcing gears from?

I've got an F1R procharge car. It'll probably never see the 1/4 mile. It's really just a street toy. But one day i'd like to do the texas mile. M12 trans kinda kills it, but my budget isn't endless and a tr6060 isn't really in the cards right now. Maybe 3.15 would work out for me.

I was going to do 3.15 when I had 650rwhp but before I got a chance the motor is hurt. So now going for 2.73 cause Ill be making 750+.

My current 3.73 rear is rpm level 4. So Im sending it back to them to change it to 2.73. They quoted me $399 for parts and $350 for labor with approximately 2 week turn around.

3.15 is a great choice unless you are going all out on top end.

FYI, I have a 3.15 diff in the c5 for sale, need to move it~!
