What Exhaust are you high HP guys running?
Hey Everyone,
So just curious what kind of exhaust you high HP guys are running or if you are running straight pipes?
My car is making a little over 800 now on pump gas and doing a few more upgrades and possibly going E85 which will put it into the 900's. My car has long tube header and x-pipe with no cats and the rear mufflers are stock but have the Muffler Mod. As of right now i am using the Lingerfelter LNC 2 step to launch. After using the 2 step a few times the welds inside the muffler crack and i keep getting them rewelded. So i thought about having my exhaust guy just remove the mufflers all together and just run straight pipe?
All advice and opinions are greatly appreciated on what I should be running.

Depending on your combo it matters immensely. Going from a crappy 2.5 inch exhaust that necked down going by my tranny pan to a full 3 inch netted me a 100hp at the tire increase.
OP, I explained more in your C6 post.

I found the c5 exh systems rather limited and very expensive in the 3" high flow setups.
I'm going to take the plunge and hack the rear cubby and run a c6 z06 obx 3" exh. Upgrading to 3" down pipes to make running the numbers a bit easier.
Over 900 hp a 2.5 just won't cut it without excessive back pressure.

Might be a C5 exhaust thing. The stock 2.5 NPP exhaust on a C6 can handle 1000 rwhp no problem.
This same thread was started in the C6 section so I assume it's a C6 the op is talking about.

Nope, C5. LG, Stainless, and B&B all make nice quality systems that flow really well. But the 3" stuff is made out of unobtanium for me price wise so I scooped a sale on the OBX C6 system and will do a bit of cutting to the rear package tray to make room.
With the turbo cars, the exh DOES make a whole lot of difference.
The flapper systems flow more as they free up the muff when the wild switch is on.
I might also use flapper tips if mine is too loud, but with the turbos acting as a muff, I doubt it.

I have 905 rwhp 416" F1A, 18psi
Kooks 1 7/8" headers, small 3" race mufflers in cat position ( to cut down on noise and resonance) 3" pipe to rear stock titanium (ZO6) mufflers. The car is fairly quiet during cruise and idle, no resonances under any conditions.
Very happy with set up.

Anyone with headers already has dual 3" almost all the way to the back of the car. Having a few feet of 2.5" piping back there is not going to cause a restriction, especially not 100 hp worth
If I recall correctly, TCRuise went from something like bullets back to stock Ti's and gained like 9 whp. Catback is not a restriction on these cars.

I'm not sure if we'd be considered high horsepower or not in this day and age. We should make around 1100RWHP ultimately with our current setup. This started out like as a Kooks 3" mid section that we took apart in the middle where it slides together and welded in some 3" straight through race bullets and added turndowns. It's loud but honestly not as loud as most I heard clips of on here. Does it drone going down the road as it exits under the car? Well.....yeah but what do you expect? Quick startup clip of this exhaust on car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92gT...ature=youtu.be

At no point did I ever say it was an axle back swap. Its from the cast downpipe's of my GT30's. Also, as stated the previous exhaust necked down even farther than the 2.5 as it went by the Moroso tranny pan of my 4L80e which caused a huge restriction. So YES....when we switched to the new exhaust (back of the down pipes, to inlet of the preexisting mufflers) it did indeed net a gain of 100hp at the wheels, and dropped a full .35 off the ET.

Turbo engines hate exhaust restrictions of any kind. No problem believing a full 2.5" exhaust system cost this engine combo a bunch of power.

Your setup is an outlier, most people don't have your combo.

The restriction related to the C5Z catback was confirmed long ago.
