Default A4 tranny - HP ratings

I was just looking at the LAPD website and I realized they are selling a tranny rated for about 600rwhp; however, on their website they also claim that the stock tranny is rated for 450rwhp. So, I am curious has anyone had their tranny die when below 450 rwhp?

Also if you have had a tranny blow. . .did you have a tranny cooler or deeper oil pan?

I suspect that the additional heat is what is causing the problems and a tranny cooler or deeper oil pan may prevent the tranny from going? :lurk:

GM tuned the LS1 to only make 360 lb/ft of torque with the auto, Im sure there was a reason :yesnod:

I'd be leary of anyone rating their transmission in terms of HP. Torque is the metric that matters not HP. 900 HP at 8000 RPMs would require less holding capability than 900 HP at 6000 RPMs.

My fault, I messed up. :conehead

Here is a quote from the LAPD website:
"The Pro Yank transmission can withstand up to 700 lb. ft. of torque! (compared to 450 lb. ft. stock)"

It seems to me that there are several A4's around 400 RWHP that have had no problems, but they have all added either a tranny cooler or deeper oil pan.

Maybe I am just trying to be optimistic. . . :yesnod: I will stay below 450 ft lb of torque for awhile. . .until the tranny blows!

It is the combination of RWTQ & frequency of WOT use. We upgraded to the FLP Stage IV tranny.

Not sure where the exact "break point" is.. tuned correctly, it can withstand burn-up pretty well. As far as breaking parts, alot of downshifting seems to bust it up more than dragracing. There are a bunch of upgrades if you find yourself facing a repair.. time to upgrade. My own A4 has mostly stock parts in it, except i used a kevlar band ,upgraded reaction shell, and upgraded 3-4 clutches. it holds up to an 11.0 run at 126 mph...so far. Hope this helps.

So, maybe I should start another conversation. . .but, would it be cheaper to upgrade the tranny now or should I wait till it breaks?

Definitely upgrade the trans before you have any problems like a weak link in your trans causing other parts to break , who knows what damage it may cause down the line $$$$. :steering:

Johnny P.,

I am taking your advice. I spoke with my mechanic today and he is ordering the parts to build up the tranny.

Thanks for the advice.
