Default Busted by a Dirty cop

Just wanted to share this.

I have an escort x radar detector, one of the best. It's saved my a$$ many times in tickets.

I was driving down 190 turnpike in Dallas a couple of weeks ago, around 80mph. Now, this turnpike was built as a trap for money. It's a huge, new, nice 10 lane road, and they slapped a 60mph speed limit on it, when everywhere else it's 75mph.

So anway, I'm approaching a hill, and it goes off, so I slow down and people start passing me. I get over the hill, go down it, and he comes fter me. I thought he was going after someone else. Iwas like, "wtf???"

He's pissed and rude from the get-go. He knocks on my window hard. I said what's this for, speeding, "no way, I was going 60mph." "No sir, I caught you going 76" "People were passing me up while I was going 60!" "I'm not going to sit here and debate it with you. " "Can I see the radar slip?" "NO, we don't give those out." so then he writes me a ticket for basically everything he possibly can, including $130 for my windows being too dark!! what a JERK! I told him I was going to fight the ticket, and I am - I'm going to DEMAND to see the radar slip, and it's BS that they aren't allowed to give them out cuz a buddy of mine got stopped not long ago and the cop offered it to him. So if he shows me the slip in court, it will be either fake or someone else's slip, at which point he'll be dirty for lying. Under "comments" on the ticket, he wrote "radar detector"!!!!

There was absolutely NO way the cop could have radar'd me since he couldn't even have seen my car, I was over a hill, much less hit me with the gun. No, he fudged the papers and is dirty. I hope he's happy with himself. If he caught me legitimately, why so angry?

Sounds dirty alright.

I'm no expert, but I got a ticket a while back just up here in Coppell with a motorcycle cop, and he gave me a print out of the whole ticket right there, it had the speed, time, date and everything......

I'm not a cop hater or anything, but that guys up to something. Bet you he won't show up in court and you'll get it dismissed. What a jerk.

I was pulled over two nights ago, for NOTHING. When i asked the officer why he pulled me over he had to think about it studdered then said i had a tag light out. After running my tag ansking whos car it was, and calling for back up he let me go as he had nothign on me.

This isn't the first time i've been pulled over just for the sake of being pulled over, i can't stand cops like that, and it's why they as a whole profession have lost my respect.

Kurt are you a younger guy as well?

I don't know about Kurt Kobain, but I'm only 26, they can definately rub me wrong. They must think it's my "daddy's" car or whatever.

Sounds like these type of cops have that "small man" inferiority complex.

This is the main reason I don't have a detector yet.

I am pretty lucky (courteous as well) when I get pulled over...I rarely get a ticket (10 years).

But I am always concerned about what effect the visable radar detector would have on the offficer.......

i'm in on this bandwagoon.

traveling 50 in a 45, got a ticket for 60. once he saw my radar (top was down) he claimed he paced me (as he was going about 95 to catch up to me)

been pulled over a few other times for nothing in particular ...

once i got pulled over for going too slow.

oh well ... such is and comes with the car.

as for the ticket, use the fact he denied you the radar slip and ask why he denied you to see it (if you take it to court that is)

He called for back-up after stopping you for a light being out??? Was he afraid of his shadow?

I dont' know, but honestly his back up was a pretty blonde, I have a feeling he had alternative motives to pulling me over.

I would definitely Fight it. The only thing I wouldnt have down is told him I was or made him more mad. Dont give them any reason to remember you. That way when you request a court date lots of times the dont show and it gets thrown out without even having to actually FIGHT it...

Sucks either way......I have been fortunate and got the nice guys the last couple times.....

Sounds to me like the LEO has something out for Vettes. He let all the cars that passed you go and then pulls you over.

Like someone said make sure you bring up the fact (in court) that you were denied the radar slip. Don't know much about radar detectors and the law but the fact that he made a point of noting it on your ticket sounds like discrimenation to me. Good luck in court, hope you beat it.

Sounds like he might have been using POP2 radar. He probably got you on that before you radar dect. even dectected it. then he switched to Ka band and by that time you probably was only going 60mph.

They are not allowed to right tickets using POP2. So maybe that is what happened.

There are good cops out there, however they are few and far between.

Good luck fighting it man. I have asked to see the lock on radar before and they have showed it to me.

when you get in court, and if the officer shows up, ask to see the last calibration slip on his radar equipment. That always really throws them. Had a judge throw out a 65MPH in a 50MPH zone, because the CHP could not find the calibration ticket for his gun. In California, the equipment has to be calibrated and verified every 6 months, and most states are the same.

Hope you beat it.

A few years ago I was stopped at 3 AM just a half mile from my house.

As I approached the traffic circle (yeah, we have those in NJ),
I know where the LEO likes to hang out and observed I was below
the speed limit. As usual, my detector goes off as I saw him
sitting in the gas station as expected.

No problem I thought. Wrong! He pulls me over and asks for the stuff.
He realizes I'm no kid and quickly determines I'm not drinking either.

I ask why was I pulled over...He's says speeding in the circle.
I knew it was BS but I played along and informed him that my
wallet was in my breifcase in the trunk and that I needed to get out
and get it.

Then I realized that he was on a training mission with a rookie and was
talking through every step on how to stop and ascertain the identity
and where to stand and observe things.

He wasn't paying attention to me at all.

He barely looked at my stuff and then offered me advice on slowing
down.

Thanks...I'll remember that, I said.

Thanks for the inconvenience too A-HOLE, I thought.

get a lawyer...here in nc, the $300 you spend to have it reduced to a non-moving violation will save you many times that in insurance premiums...

Kurt, There is no such thing as a Radar Slip that is printed out.
In New York State you are not entitled to see the radar. It would be a safety issue to let every one that gets a speeding ticket walk back to the patrol car to examine the radar. It is also not required of the officer to lock the speed in on the Radar. As far as paper work goes the only thing you could ask for would be the Officers Radar Certification and patrol Vehicle Speedometer calibration and that would be at trial not on the side of the road. In a pack of vehicles the radar can pick up the fastest vehicle but it is up to the officer to pick out which one it is. Good luck in court.

Sorry to hear you got busted, but, I am trying to look at it from both sides..you were a little surprised he picked you, since you did slow down as you stated because cars were passing you..even from your side of this, I could see where the cop might say you were argumentative..a lot of times its not what you say, it's how you say it..I am not trying to take the cops side,,I wasn't there so I don't know ,other than what you posted.
I will say this, I am sure most LEO's frown on radar detectors,,it's almost like saying, "i got this so now I can speed and not get caught" otherwise why would you buy one in the first place.

kinda like being caught with your pants down wearing a condom with a naked girl..humm ya woudln't have put the condom on if you weren't going to ...uh ya know
