Mirror covers/washing?
Anybody try those covers for the side mirrors for washing? I recently tried turning the mirrors in as suggested during washing, I thought it might do the trick but no such luck. The covers look like they would not scratch?
Any opinions.
Thanks.

If you don't use a leaf blower already to blow out the cracks and crevices on your car, you might try that. Never even heard of it until I read on the forum here. It really gets the water out.

It's not that the mirror can't get wet - it's when they get wet inside, the water tends to collect in there. Then, unless you've been able to get ALL of the water out of there, it finds it's way out down the side of your freshly detailed door the first time you drive the car....whether that's 15 minutes later or two days later.
I've used the Mirror Seals, and they work good. I also blow the water out of every crevice and spot I can find with my compressor. And, even after all of that, I still manage to get water dripping down the side of the car.

The black rubber mirror covers work very well to prevent soapy water from getting in. However, it must be warm enough out to let the covers adapt correctly, as they will leak if they don't snug up right. Tried using them in 40-50 degree weather and they were a bit too stiff to stay in place. Found out they had leaked afterward!

I have spent a lot of time drying it off after a wash, even with the mirrors folded in, and the damn things are still a problem.
I don't think I can bring myself to drill holes in the bottom of the mirrors as has been suggested. Also have heard about whistling due to holes.
Thanks again

I just bought my first vette and the previous owner recommended tying plastic grocery bags/target bags/etc around the mirrors and it works great! Best of all, they are free

I know the "drip effect" problem and hate it. But I just wipe it off the door.

I also use the covers and still get a small amount of water in there. I usually follow up with a folded paper towel and slide it in the bottom to soak up the rest. By the way, I would not make it a habit of folding your mirrors in, they have been known to break and it can be very costly to fix.

They look like they would do a good job. Would make a good gift - I'll have to start dropping hints.
