How do you like the 3.73's? How's Gas Mileage? My C5 isn't a daily driver and i'm sick of my 3.15's. Would you agree going to 3.73's is a good idea?

I've been thinking of doing this too. I've heard that a torque converter helps out even more. Does anyone know how much either one of these procedures would cost on average? and are there any reliability issues? or above average wear?

I was looking over the prices on 3.73 Diff's and i think i may just go with 3.42's and a Stall. 1600 Dollars for 3.73's is Bull****.

I was told that the 3.42 was just not worth the cost of install and such. It's much better with the 3.73 and a Yank SS3600 stall TC. That is the setup I was thinking...then i started to wonder about a 3.90 and Yank SS4000E setup. Someone told me it's actually pretty good around town, and it won't fell to loose due to the high gear ratio. But I need to take one for a drive or something.

Thats a big part of the reason why 3.42s are in my car.

But you can use your 3.15s as a core on a 3.73 purchase. Or you can just get the 3.73 ring and pinion and have someone locally set them for you.

There is a world of difference between 3.42s and a decent stall and stock stalled 3.15 geared Vette.

If you are not going to swap the gears and the stock T/C. Just swap the stock T/C for the Yank SS3200. A good T/C will out perform just gears, plus your mileage on the highway won't change since you will still have your 3.15 gears. IMO a good high stall T/C is a must if you want great performance from your A4.

Since you're in PA, I'd give ECS a call. They can set you up with a set of 3.73's installed for around $1200. Installing a converter at the same time will only be slightly more.

I did 3:73's and a Stall............which I had done a set of 3:90's.

Go with the DTE rear end......

Does it cost more?........sure, in fact quite abit more than others, but they are bullet proof, and the service is 2nd to none. I would also do an output shaft upgrade while your in there.

Sets the stage for H/C packages and and S/C'ers down the road.

Thanks for posting Face. I'll be e-mailing them tonight.

Is it worth it to go with 3.73's and a higher stall? Like a 2800 or something?

Default yes got 373's and torque conv.

Gas milage seems ok but the thing is super strong. Was just out tearing up the runcraps. The sooner i wear them out the sooner I can get some new tires.Left a leat a 50 foot set of marks befor e letting up on the gas. That is some real fun.

It's a night and day difference over stock. You should drop at least .5 off your E.T. as long as you still have traction. Plus, it should still drive like stock as far as creep in D and lockup. You should only lose a couple mpg, but a little more at first due to the driver adjustment.
As far as upgrade, ECS can do the same rear end upgrades as DTE. I have a hardend output shaft and other misc things. But most aren't needed unless you have a stick car and/or you'll be using E.T. streets, etc..

I installed 3.90's with a 4000 Stall in my baby. The difference is incredible instantly pinning you back in the seat. I highly recommend this combo.

I was about to go the 3.73/3600 stall route, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm better off doing the 3.90/4000 combo. Damn you all.
I guess I've got some thinking to do!

3.73's here and I still got 25.5 mpg on my way down to Cruise In 6 running 75mph.

I have had the 3.15 stock, and then the 3.42 for about 18 months. I love the 3.73's.

373 DtE rear here,, no stall. Did not want extra trans heat ya get with the stall. My excuse was fixing the seal leak,, might as well mod the whole unit. lol.....I get 20 mpg with maggie and 373 at 55 mph,, 26 mpg at 70 mph. With 400 rwhp and 373 and BFG Kd tires, this thing is great, Go with DTE if you are close...Phil is da MAN.

If you want to run some really good times, the 3.90/4000 combo is the way to go. The SS4000 will feel a little tighter, meanwhile the YPT4000 will be a little loser, but will give a cam'ed and or head car a better E.T.

It won't cost you 1600 bones given you have the 3:15 core. I had to pay 1600 because my car came with (what I like to call) the barbie rear end...2:73! But that change was the biggest change bar none that I've done to increase its response. Big change mind you but I'd say go with the 3:73 and a good TC. I use a Yank 3200 stall. Its an ANIMAL! Just my 2 cents.

That sounds like the set up I will go to
