You're not a terrible father for thinking it, you might be if you actually risked it though??...... j/k

I dont' think it's legal, but double check, maybe someone who knows the law will chime in.

I believe you can turn off the airbag from the glove box.

1) The dealers have an Air bag shut off kit, latter models C5 have it from the factory.
2) The owners manual tells you what kind and how to install a baby seat.

Think about it.... Is this about you or him???? As said above, think about it but don't do it...... Once you do a short ride at 50 MPH, next it'll be a longer ride on the interstate. He'd most likely enjoy you reading him a story instead........ OK, I'm all talk..... I take my grandkids in the Vette all the time and catch HeXX for it constantly

I take my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter all the time. Turn off the airbag (I can with my 01) and strap her and the carseat in. She loves it. Oh and I don't catch heck from her mom or my wife. Go for it

if it's a regular child seat (not a rear facing seat) then you'll be fine, I used to take my daughter in my corvette all the time in her child seat (she's 9 now) just make sure the seat is all the way back, and there is NO airbag cutoff switch in a '98 corvette.

(this is NOT my daughter!)

I too have a 1998. Does not come w/ factory installed Passenger air bag switch. I purchased and installed one from aoi electrical in Texas. Here is the link http://aoielectrical.com/general/getaswitch.asp

Works great, installed in the glovebox. Has remote light to mount within driver's view to tell if it's "on" or "off". A must, if installed in the glove box. Not the easest thing to install...figure a good couple of hours. Of course, after doing one, I could do it now in half the time. But well worth it. Was thinking about picking up a "traction control" switch from a new vette that I saw on e-bay which has the airbag "off" light built into it. This would give my 98 a more stock look rather then the AOI light. Good luch, Mike.

My son is 5, and he goes everywhere with me in his car seat. I never put a rear facing seat in the vette...
My son was about 10 months old and he would throw a fit getting into my wife's car if I parked next to the vette. He has always wanted to ride in the vette. Who could blame him!

For a '98, you will need to get an air bag cutoff switch installed. Fichtner Chevy sells them for sure. I believe you can put a child in the front if there is only two seats, but you may want to check with your state highway patrol to get the specifics.

I installed the airbag cutoff switch from Fitcher in my 2000 coupe. I suggest you do the same. It's not worth taking the chance, especially with a car seat. Or buy a later model (late 2000 on had the switch installed at the factory).

With dealer help I believe there is a shutoff. The only person who loves the Vette more than me is my daughter (see sig pic). Took the car to local police station with carseat and got the right advice. I stay very local with her in the car.

Take my 2 year old granddaughter for 1 1/2 to 2 hour runs a couple of
times. Her child seat sets up high enough that she can see out the side
window.
A few times after about hour she be snoozing, but love the way she says, lets ride in vette.
