Mission Accomplished!! HUD Install Complete! (pics)
Finally got everything together and got the job done today!
I found it easier to remove the AC control unit than to wrestle with the plugs behind the Radio. They didn't want to come loose..
So I dropped the Radio down and out of the way.
With everything removed (I followed Josh's awesome instructions: http://joshker99.home.comcast.net/hudinstall2.htm) This is what you got..
Here's a pic of the top of the cluster where the HUD projector plugs in...
The new projector (with protective film from factory) and the cluster ready to go...
I chose to install with the rubber well nuts (10-24) that I got from Lowes. You can see one installed on the left side and the other awaiting the second well nut.
To do the job right, I followed the instructions from a previous thread about using the Dremel right angle attachement and the conical grinding bit as shown:
The projector is now installed!!
Here's the view from the top. A little glare..
More pics next thread....

Continued...
Here's a pic of Josh's HUD (11-pin harness wire installed)..
The first cut I made on the dash I did with the Dremel and a cut-off wheel. The first pass was only on the plastic on the underside of the dash.. You can see the piece I removed to the right.
With a sharp razor knife, I cut away the vinyl and made cuts to fit, test fitting the bezel all the while. I cut the posts on the bezel short to accomodate screws and washers.
to be continued...

very nice... Your brave... I would cry seeing my vet apart like that!!! BTW how much time and money did you end up spending? Do you have the dial on the dash like the stock option?

Oh man! I am so jealous of you. I wish I was brave enough to attempt that. I think I have the only 2004 Corvette without HUD. Congratulations and enjoy your new improved ride.
I wonder if that install would void a warranty.

||--Genuine GM HUD Setup--||
10279814 – HUD - 175.00
12198648 – Switch - 66.10
10425223 – Bezel – 17.14
The only other thing I had to buy was the well nuts, hardware, etc...
AND..Josh's Wiring Harness $45.00.
It took about 4 1/2 hours.
I'm not sure what you meant about the dial though?

Awesome job and a great writeup. The HUD is one of my favorite things about my car.
