Weird tread wear with Pilot ZP's
Has anyone else had problems with the center tread wearing thin (threads showing)? The edges have plenty of tread left. I did a search and another member described the exact situation I am in. I have never ran excessive tire pressure, if anything they ususlly run a little low. It is only the rear's. WTF????????? I have pics, but no way to post.

Just from I've read it sounds like too much tire pressure. Are you running 30psi cold? If so they you might try 28psi. Also they say to mark a chalk line across you tires and go out and drive several miles. Check the chalk line and see where chalk is left. Chalk on just the sides then too much pressure, chalk in the middle and not enough. No chalk and just right. I think that's what I remember anyway. I'm sure more idea's will follow.

I go with the too much air theory. I've seen the same issues on previous tires, especially during summer when 30psi cold translates to 36-38psi when heated on the roads down here.
Lowering mine to around 25-26psi in the summer keeps my tread even. Just my personal experiences

If you are running them at 30psi cold, then I'd drop a pound or 2. If you're running them higher, that's most likely the cause.

Excessive tire pressure was my first thought as well, but, I have never had more than 28psi cold. I have never, however checked the pressure HOT. Why just the rears?

I guess we'll have to hear from some peeps running the Michelins - I haven't seen or heard that on other brands....
How many miles on them?

Not many miles....guessing 5K. The only reason I put out the post was because I ran across THIS post: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...rn&forum_id=23
I am trying to contact the author of the other post. But in the mean time just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else.

I just replaced my rears and they had exactly the same problem. I always run 28-30 lbs cold. The fronts are maybe half worn but the center 1/3 was almost worn bare. I only got about 14K out of the rear. If they'd have worn like the fronts I'd get at least 30K.
Discount Tire guys thought too much pressure until I told them 28-30. Then the guys said cars like the Vette (with lots of torque) tend to wear that way.

Have the same issue with my Pilots, and i've heard from a couple others with Pilots going through the same thing (at 30psi cold anyway). I just dropped mine down to 28, hopefully that'll get me a few more miles outta them.

Seems my car handles best at right around 30-32psi, hot. So depending on the weather, this can be running as low as 26psi cold. Not to mention, spirited driving and burnouts and stuff will increase the center wear tremendously. Just think of a top fuel dragster when it's doing the burnout, and how the tires stretch out and it's just riding on the very center.

I had them will not buy them again they are I have the Falken with the same center and it has not worn out like the polit sports did. I ran low pressure and everything, got the same bs from the dealer. So why dose a Cheaper tire do better with the same basic pattern! I have done more burn out with the Falken than the polit sports! Still have twice the miles on them!
