GM or WARRANTY DIRECT Extended Warranty
My warranty on my 03 is about to expire and I'm not sure about what extended warranty to purchase, GM, or Warranty Direct. My gut says to buy the Warranty Direct version since I can go to any vendor to have repairs done.
Please lend me your advise on this matter espically those of you who have Warranty Direct. Which one is better and what are the pitfalls if any.
Thanks
Bob

I would never buy another GMPP extended warranty. Just because you have one doesn't mean a dealer will fix your car. That's why I still have a sticking clutch pedal. Can't get a dealer to fix it under warranty.

Because of many stories like this, I got Warranty Direct with a
7 year/60,000 mile/$0 deductible extended warranty............but it does not even kick in until my 3 year/36,000 GM warranty expires ....and that means that I actually just get an additional 24,000 miles or 4 additional years of warranty after the GM warranty expires...and the cost was $1280(which included an upgraded coverage for emissions)...the GMPP also worked this way...both run concurrently with the existing warranty(in my case with new car warranty)........go figure
BTW...Warranty Direct listed(ALL) the exclusions(things NOT covered) in black and white and everything else is covered...whereas GMPP did not list ALL of the exclusions... which consists of many parts not covered

I have Warrant Direct and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It was cheaper than GMPP and I've had no problems with the dealerships honoring it. Good luck.

I have Warranty Direct currently on my 1999 Chevy Astro Van. It is about to expire as I hit the 100K mark on that, but have been happy with coverage.
As I get closer to the 3 yr mark on the 03 vette, will be comparing both the GMPP (From our forum vendors) and the Warranty direct.

Warranty Direct has a 60k mile limit to get new coverage. My vette has 70k miles. Does anyone have experience with the following reputable after-market warranty companies:
Warranty Warehouse (they offer 36mo/36k mile for around $1800)
AA Auto Warranty
The Auto Club
1Source (their 36mo/36000K is around $2500)
Most of them offer warranties beyond my 70k. Thanks for the help. I need to get a warranty.

I have Warranty Direct ..
Read this: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/warranty.htm
I bought Warranty Direct 4 years ago... 7 years 100,000 miles zero deductible bumper to bumper... for 1200 dollars... I paid 200 dollars the first month then 100 dollars a month for the next 10 months... with no interest..
Warranty Direct is one of the oldest extended warranty companies in the country... they were writing extended warranties years before GM and Ford ever got into the extended warranty business.. Their D&B rating is "A" Superior.. which is the highest you can get... To date : I have used them seven times.. Water pump, oil sending unit, Door control Module, and Headlight actuator control motor..[alternator, belt tensioner and idler pulley ](this was one claim ), new seat adjuster.., and a radiator recovery tank. They had paid over 3,000 dollars in claims so far , and always with a thank you and, we will be here for you if you need us again... And the Best Part is I do Not have to take it to the dealer...Although many dealers will take this warranty because it actually pays them 40 % more for labor than GM pays them... I don't have to deal with people that know less about a Corvette than I do.... No dealer 18 year old Lot jockeys lighting up my tires... No inept techs working on my car... no threats or hassles from a guy that was working at McDonald the year before.. MY repair guy has been in business 40 years.. can do anything GM can do... he doesn't have any kids working for him... I can watch... My repair shop told me that Warranty Direct is the best warranty company he has ever worked with... he even Now has his personal cars covered by them.. Never a penny out of my pocket... MY guy calls Warranty direct to open a claim... he repairs the car... calls me when it is done.. submits his repair bill Via a fax to Warranty Direct, and he gets paid right on the spot via corporate credit card,,, just as if I gave him my credit card,,,
I still have three years and 50,000 miles left on this warranty... it would be worth 6 to 800 dollars to anyone who would buy my car... if I decided to sell it.. Would I do it again...? in a heart beat !
Experience
Well over 1.5 million contracts sold.
Over $400 million in claims paid.
Over 800,000 claims paid.
Over 9,000 claims handled every month.
Stability
A Forbes Magazine Top 200 Company- three times.
Over $140 million in assets, mostly in insured claims reserve accounts.
Celebrating our 25th year in business and 10 years on the Internet.
Reliability
Over 18,000 dealers and repair facilities do business with Warranty Direct.
Over 2,200 car dealers, banks and credit unions sell our coverage.
ZERO Better Business Bureau complaints in the past 16 months.
That is over 144,000 claims without one single complaint..
Licensed and approved to do business in all 50 states.
Coverage
It's a Wear and Tear Warranty not a breakdown only warranty
A breakdown warranty means the car has to be broken to be fixed
A Wear and Tear Warranty is much better, because something could be failing, and still be fixed.. e.g.. alternator bearing starting to go bad..
A Wear and Tear claim will fix this before you get stuck..
A Breakdown Warranty means you have to be stuck somewhere before they will fix it.
The industry's most comprehensive coverage.
Wear and tear, seal and gaskets, overheating- all covered!
No restrictive, vague or fuzzy contract language.
When your vehicle breaks down or starts to fail, Warranty Direct pays.

Not familiar with Warrant Direct, but a word of caution. I purchased my Vette from a private party in March. It had an after market warranty for 5 years, 100,000 miles with HERITAGE Insurance in Lincoln, NE. It was $50 deductable, and a $50 transfer fee. I transfered it immediately after the purchase. A few months later I took the Vette into the dealer for some warranty work. The dealer refuses to do business with this company. They will only pay the dealer $75 per hour (their normal rate is $100), and they do not allow the dealer to use GM parts. In most cases they will ship remanufactured parts to the dealer through their own suppliers (ie starters, alternators, etc.). This is one case where I agree with the dealer...screw them.
Be sure and read the fine print. The appropriate verbage was in the contract.
Good luck, and

I have Warranty Direct on the vette and it gives me leeway considering I can take it to most certified shops and get the work done if needed. GM is always looking for an excuse not to fix something under warranty especially if your car is or soon to be modded in any way. Many people that have Warranty Direct have had decent experiences with them. On my other stock GMC Yukon I have the GM extended warranty and have had the need to use it too... Glad I have been covered...

A couple of months ago I was looking at the extended warranties since my 02's factory warranty had expired before I bought the car (9,400 miles) in March of this year.
After comparing - I went with Warranty Direct. 5 yrs or 60000 miles. No Deductible.
Heard good things about them. Seem to have a good reputation. Haven't had a problem yet with my car so I haven't had a chance to try the warranty out.
