Extended warranty works for me!!
Hey all. Bought my 02 c5 in November 2004. It only had 6 months left on the factory warranty. Well I bought the GM major guard warranty. Took the car in for a number of what i thought was small issues. The ABS light was on, power door lock on driver side not working, wiper arm button in the car came apart. Well just called the dealer and they told me that the car need ABS power valve and modulator, door lock modulator, new wiper arm. I asked what the total would have been without the warranty and she told me about $3000-$4000. My warranty cost me 1500.00. I still have 4 1/ 2 years and 40,000 miles to go. I was never a big supporter of the warranties but I am glad I bought it now. Steve

Good for you! It's better to have it and never need it than to need it and not have it.

I bought my 2000 vert in may 05. The car has been to the dealer 3 times and is there now. The first issue was a cold knock and the rear end leaked. The knock was main bearings. Chevy was going to rebuild the lower end but when it was apart they found a crack in the block from a repair that was made at burt chevy in colorado. Then they resealed the rear end. About 600 miles later the rear end was smoking. I think that the tech failed to refill the rear end. Then the column lock failed so I had a diffrent shop look at that and told them by the way the rear end is howling. They are working on it now and the extended warranty is replacing the whole rear end. The dealer said The engine and reseal would have cost $11000.00. The rear end and column lock $3700.00. That is almost $15000.00. The only cost to me was $35.00 to transfer the warranty and $100.00 deduct 2 times. I love GMPP.

I find it interesting that we only hear stories of people who have bought the warranty and it paid off for them. I don't think I've heard one instance documented here where somebody paid the bucks and didn't end up covering the cost of the warranty through claims. I still look at warranties as a bet that you are going to pay less for your warranty than what you expect in the way of repairs. You are betting against a company that is in business to make money. Common sense tells me that most people are going to lose this bet. Just my opinion.

It's a crap shoot. If you buy one you hope to use it. If you don't buy one you cross your fingers.
