Default Key FOB Ghost

New problem developed wit my primary key FOB. It will not stay synchronized with the VEt. It will sync and work fine, 2 hours later it's dead again. The second FOB works fine. Do FOB's go bad? Is the a freq. chips in them? Thanks

Perhaps your battery is almost dead!

I should have added that I have replaced the batteries in the FOB's.

The fob has weak battery contacts. When you bump it, contact is momentarily lost and thus loses sync. Gently pry the contacts up so they push harder on the battery. Worked for me.

Thank you I will try that. With what has been happening, that makes a lot of sense. Sorry I did not think of it myself.

Check your DTC codes that are storred in the DIC. if you have a ton of U series codes, your 12 volt DC car battery could be low or going bad. If your main battery is weak and the B+ line voltage goes low, the RFA Module and many of the other modules will go off line and your FOBs can loose sync. As soon as the voltage returns to normal, the off line modules set the U code and returns to normal operation. The voltage usually goes LOW durring engine cranking when your sucking major amps out of the battery.
If you depress LOCK and UN-LOCK on the FOB at the same time and hold it until the horn beeps, that resyncs the FOB.

How old is your battery??

Have a new Optima in. If it was the battery i would not think the second FOB would work OK. I am going to try the contacts tonight. This is the normal FOB I use so it has a lot of use the the contact make a lot of sense.

The fobs do eventually wear out. If the car's battery and the fob's battery check out OK, then it could very well be the fob that is needing replacement.

Looks like the contacts may have been the problem. Thanks for the input. Time will tell for sure.
