Traction Control Vs. Burnouts
For all you Vette pilots that like to 'light 'em up' every now and then, I pose a question.
When YOU do YOUR burnouts, is your traction control engaged or dis-engaged?
In the old days we used to put 'er in gear, rev the engine and dump the clutch (automatics weren't cool yet) while stomping the gas. This usually created the proverbial 'burnout' a.k.a. 'laying rubber'.
With all of the high tech stuff on cars such as traction control and stabil-a-trac, one wonders how you can even brake the tires loose if the tech stuff is engaged.
When my rear tires near replacement, I plan to finish them off by burning them off doing donut loops....but not before.

Turn off the traction control, you'll never get a burnout with it on.

The point of traction control is to stop the tires from breaking traction... which is the whole point of a burnout. You will need to turn it on before you try or your car will just stumble and fall on its face.

For burnouts, turn the traction control off. Ortherwise, when it senses wheel spin, it adjusts to stop the spin.

OK, back to basics:
The car has traction control (prevents wheels from losing traction) and stability control (applies any brake to keep the car from losing its yaw; keeps it straight). You can turn one or the other off, but not both at the same time. Turn off traction control: Hold the button down for 5 seconds. Turn off stability control: Briefly hold down the button.
Personally, I would NEVER turn off the stability control.

Competition mode: Keep the big button on ur console pressed down, and hold it there for 5 - 15 seconds. In older C5s it takes 10 seconds or so for the Comp mode to kick in. New C5s (2001+) takes about 5 seconds.

As a side note, to clear Competition Mode from the DIC hit reset. It stays engaged but is cleared from the display.
